This is one of my most favorite places. Yes, it takes time to get there, but the journey to get there is a part of experience, I think. We stayed here twice, and I would not mind going back there again. It is so quiet and peaceful, you can see the stars at night after the light show is over.... More

We loooooove James Turrell's 'house of light'. It is definitely not your average night away. We stayed with friends there on a Friday night in mid-August. We drove from Tokyo (it took three hours up, and four hours - in traffic - back). We were able to check in after public access closed at 4:00pm. The staff were incredibly helpful... More

Part of the Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale is this work one of the highlights indeed. Light is the perfect word for the art of James Turrell.

The house is in a very beautiful location and an overnight stay is very peaceful. The light show at sunset and dawn will challenge your senses and make you see colors.

Even if you can't stay this is definitely worth a visit. It is a beautiful project and an amazing building. Make sure you check out the bath!

Even if you're not familiar with James Turrell's work you can enjoy this. We stayed the night here a few weeks ago and it's absolutely breathtaking. I would definitely recommend booking it if you're in Japan and have the time. The staff was very accommodating, meticulously going over the rules and how to use the moving roof so we could... More

House of light has been built by the great artist James Turrel, to share his passion for sun rise and sun set. 6 months in advance, book the house for you and your friends or family. And the experience begins. At 4pm, after the House is closed to visitors, you will be explained the how to of the magic roof... More
