This castle was nowhere to be found. It was just an empty lot with a marker that states it used to be where the castle was. The castle towers and gates are still in place

First of all, I'd like to ask you to know what to see at ruins of Japanese castles. Many people might consider that Japanese castle is the building of Tenshukaku (castle tower) that was the symbol of those castle after Nobunaga Oda era. However, there are many ruins of castles without those towers. When you visit ruins of Japanese castles,... More

Loved the history of this castle. This is the place where Sanada Yukimura and his army were from. The place had quite a lot of story to tell, unfortunately some parts of the castle were under renovations when we were there... But nonetheless.. It was a very interesting place to be.

You will find lots of castle ruin in japan. We came here at 5pm thinking the castle would be closed. But luckily you still can walk the grounds only the tower is closed. Walk around the surroundings and it features all the parts of the castle, tower, moat etc

Which makes sense if you can read the Japanese and understand the significance historically, etc. If you're expecting to see a castle you'll be disappointed. Nice place for a stroll. Free parking. Shrine on the grounds. Well has an interesting story.

Just took a walk around the surroundings of the castle, so we never went inside. The surroundings were very nice, especially in the spring time with some cherry blossom trees outside the castle.

we were expecting more of the castle; however it is worth 15 minute walk around. the oji-san working at the shrine was very helpful about explaining some of the history.

Ueda castle is small, and stand alone, it's not that interesting. You need to enjoy the whole town and the story of the Sanada clan to appreciate the landscape and wondering how they manage to defend the city. The landscape around the castle is quite beautiful and serene, the view is nice. Then you can stroll around the town and... More

Nice place for walking, relaxing and reading book. You can also do picnic. Many tourists from all over the country come on Sakura Season.
