Seafood, lacquer and food! One of the oldest morning market selling products produced nearby, including natural salt, seafood (fresh and dried), vegetables and the famous Wajima lacquer chopsticks and utensils. the street isn't very long, but with lots to look at. The bus tour guide also told me the average age of the shop owners are over 80! although they... More

This is a very busy morning market which you can see a lot of local food and artwork. Be here early in the morning for the freshest food of the season and also take time to walk into the shops to find the best lacquerware souvenir for yourself and your loved ones.

Even though we had to look from under umbrellas, the array of fresh and dried seafood was amazing. There were many lacquerware stores and the staff were very helpful. A few antique stores also which were a delight to look through. We found a lovely older style coffee shop, kissaten, where the master brewed different types of coffee. WONDERFUL

It was supposed to be one of the three largest outdoor market in Japan but frankly it's a little disappointed to me. Other than the old ladies selling mostly dried seafood and lots of lacquer ware I don't feel much excitement. I m not sure how the stalls can survive as I don't see much people buying. Just strolling along.... More

The asaichi (morning market) on the streets of Wajima Onsen was one of the best of the dozens I had visited in my recent three-year stay in Japan. It is a must-see spot. It features lots of locally-caught fish: fresh and dried, salt and fresh water. For those who want to try fugu (blow fish), here's a place to do... More

It was raining when we arrived at the morning market so it wasn't really crowded. A little bit mendukosai to look at the goods because of the umbrellas. I find the place cleaner compared to the morning market in Hakodate. Most of the goods that were sold in the market were dried fish and lacquerwares. We were looking at some... More

Wajima is famous for lacquerware and the Wajima Morning Market is filled with numerous lacquer merchants, seafood specialists and a few fruit and vegetable stands. So who would expect there to be a new upscale coffee house/boutique in the midst of this fairly traditional market? Kalpa has arrived and was a real surprise. Excellent cappuccinos, hand-drip coffee, croissants and scones... More

This is much smaller than Kanazawa, but worth experiencing. Locals are excited over local recognition from NHK TV series. Learn about lacquerware to appreciate this community.

If you've never been to an outdoor market before, you might find it interesting. However, we found the market to be small and to be honestly, a little bit of a tourist trap. Better to go to Omicho Market in Kanazawa.

Not busy when we went and not as evocative as we'd thought it might be. But plenty of obachans squatting next to a few bags of pickled produce to give some authentic "atmosphere" for tourists.
