この城跡は気持ちの良いほど整備されている。普通は気に邪魔されて見えない近辺の郭が手の取るようにわかる。単なる地方領主であった新田氏の末裔後閑氏の居城であるのにかなり広大な構えの城である。
堀切、郭の形また物見櫓も復元されていて本格的な木製であった。
本丸から見る妙義山は絶景。
また本丸には旧後閑氏の家臣が戦没者供養のための庚申塔が１２８基祀られています。これもまた見物であった。見学には1時間程度かければ見るると思うが交通も便が悪いのが難点であるが古城に興味のある人は行くべき城跡である。

３月末なのに桜の花が満開でした。本丸まで登ると、桜の花がドーム状になっていて、包まれている感じが不思議な感じ。夜はライトアップされるので、とても幻想的です。
行く途中の道が狭いので、気を付けて下さい。

東側と西側に駐車場が整備されていて、どちらからでも登る事ができます。西側の駐車場にはトイレも有り、本丸へのルートも階段が整備されています。日当たりも良く明るいので、こちらのルートがお勧めですね。
草刈りもきちんとされているので、城全体の形状が良く解ります。
本丸には庚申塔がたくさん有り、桜の咲く頃、供養のお祭りが行われるそうです。
