Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a stunning beach which was about 10 minutes drive from Shimoda station. We enjoyed a paddle and there were a lot of swimmers. Coastguards are on duty. We could not get a taxi back through Uber or the Japanese Go app which was a bit of a pain so we walked to the Izukyu hotel opposite the beach and they were kind enough to call us a cab. The nearest beach to the station would have been Sotoura beach which looked just as nice. There is a 7/11 there and a couple of mobile food stalls but no nice restaurants. The toilets had taps outside to wash your feet of sand but the toilets were not great. It was a really lovely afternoon stroll along this beach though.

Arrived after the typhoon had hit and the main beach had been cleared but the beach in the left had not been cleaned BUT it did not soil our days at the beach.
Very lovely beach with great areas to sit watching the waves roll in.

I spent one night in big Hotel across the road. Amazing sand, clean beach, beautiful sea, surfing place, next to the busy road/ but noise is covered by sea sound. Enjoyed it very much

Beautiful at first but there is a hidden danger, sewage.
There are two main sewage canals coming out into the beach, cutting it in two different points. I've seen people bathing into it with their kids.
The water rivering into these two canals is a bit foggy and at times you can see a bit of foam. I havn't seen anything like nappies or other dirt, but definately not a place i would like to bath.
All the hotels and guesthouses have their sewage coming out right there. That's basically it.
The beach is nice, but think about it twice before going there. It is VERY dangerous.

Restaurants around the area are very few and poor. You will not find anything worth eating. Thre are better restaurants around the main Station in Shimoda.

There are public toilets by the beach, while the showers cost about 500 yen.
Lockers cost 500 yen from the morning till 04:00pm.

From Shimoda Station, you can easily reach the beach by taxi ( about 2000 yen - 5 minutes ) or by bus ( 10 minutes - don't remember the price ).

It doesn't sound bad, but the water is not clean at all. You shouldn't bath in here whatsoever.

Loved the cleanliness of this beach. The beach was empty except for a few friendly surfers. Apparently this beach gets REALLY crowded in July. The 7/11 nearby is also a big plus.

This beach was the highlight of our trip to Izu. From Shimoda station it is around 15-20 minutes journey. We were 16 people and had a ball of a time here! The beach is beautiful with its transparent blue-green water and smooth whitish sand. We swam in the water, played volleyball and then kabbadi..:) Many people were surfing there too. Overall its a good place to visit with friends or family.

This is the best spot if you're looking for a good time. Unlike the uptight people in the Kanagawa area, the attitudes of the people in general are more relaxed on this beach. You can play loud music, have tattoos, drink alcohol, etc and nobody messes with you. The waves are good, the eye candy outstanding and you'll have fun.

Not like a beach in Kamakura, you can find a very soft white sand beach here with lots of surfers, clean water, 7-11 and parking just located across the street, it's a nice beach to enjoy a sunny day.

Unfortunately when we came in June it was really too cold to have a proper swim in the sea, but the family and the young kids enjoyed the sand and spent a good 1-2 hours there anyway to play. The water looked pretty clean as is the white-ish yellow-ish fine sand. Its not easy to figure out where to park, try the paid ones (opens late, closes early) across the main road.
