A very nice bustling beach with clear waters and white sands. The waves are kind of strong the whole day, so it's better use swim ring or other equipment. Parasols and beach chairs price is different up the hill from the beach and on the beach. There is no loud music at the beach, so families with kids can rest... More

Great beach to visit and to learn to surf, this area has a really pristine coastline with the clearest water I have seen. There is a great surf shop and cafe opposite the beach that is well stocked for surfers of most levels. The owner also stocks the Prince Hotel shop. A really good weekend getaway from Tokyo.

Besides being much frequented by bathers, the area is also known for relatively good conditions for the practice of surfe.Shirahama: one of the most famous attractions in Izu Peninsula  Showers are available next to the shops.

Fine sand beach, spacious, with sun beds and umbrellas for rent. Very nice spot and big waves for surfing. Neg.: a lot of life guards announcements through loudspeakers every 10 minutes

Honestly this is one of the best beaches in maybe all of the east coast of Japan. Many surfing contests are held here. Please keep it clean!!!!

It's a beach. The water looked nice. But it was also autumn and it was cold. I imagine in summer, it must be nice, since it is wide and deep, so plenty of sand for you to build magnificent sandcastles. I was just there to take a photo. But if you really want to experience Australian sand, why not go... More

Beautiful at first but there is a hidden danger, sewage. There are two main sewage canals coming out into the beach, cutting it in two different points. I've seen people bathing into it with their kids. The water rivering into these two canals is a bit foggy and at times you can see a bit of foam. I havn't seen... More

Shirahama beach is about 4.5 kilometers from Shimoda. It is a nice beach, a few hundred meters wide, between cliffs. The seawater in late October 2015 was a little chilly. The sea was too rough to take a swim, but we saw several people surfing.
