Unfortunately the tar tunnel has been partially closed for a while now due to a health and safety issue with gas. You can only go to the entrance rather than walking the tunnel wearing a hard hat. What a pity they don't tell you this...More

This tunnel has been closed off so you can not go into it, it's been like this for a couple of years, the entrance to it is via a small shop that sell souvenirs, total waste of time visiting it,

You can walk to the Tar Tunnel from the Coalport China museum - a 10 minute walk along the attractive canal. On the way you see the Hay Incline which was used to raise and lower canal barges and then you go to the tunnel...More

A visit to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Tar Tunnel is usually a must when visiting the area. It's an atmospheric and unique place which you can normally walk into, wearing a hard-hat, which is provided. However this hasn't been the case now for about two...More

Had no idea this tunnel existed but was fascinated to learn about the history. It isn't possible to go into the tunnel at present due to the gas level being too high, but it is still definitely worth a visit as you can learn about...More

it is such a shame that you cannot go into it, health and safety and no one willing to take ownership of fixing it. you can stand at the entrance but it has been over a year and apparently talking to staff no the owner,...More

As others have said there is no guarantee that the tunnels will be open but it's well worth a look if you have any interest in the history of the area, very different to anything I have seen before
