Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Every time we were in Sassafras we would visit Smits & Bits and every time we visited, we always found something we like, a nice clock, a cute toy or decorations for my daughter’s room or some cute jars...the thing I like about the shop is they are not not overpriced as some of the boutique shops and the owner is always super friendly. Can’t wait to go back to support their business.

T'was a cold and wet rainy day, but it always is warm and friendly inside this amazing Gift Specilaty Shop.

Actually it's like you are transported back into time with all the wonderful trinkets and memorabilia of what you dreamt to own.

Did I mention that you will be greeted by the most esquisite story-teller and shop owner Connor.

Always brings a smile when you walk away.

While visiting the Dandenong region today, we came across this little shop (among many gift stores).
The moment we walked in the door, the owner (or maybe staff member?), welcomed us.
I purchased 6 lovely soaps for Christmas Secret Santa gifts.
Most things in the shop are a reasonable price.

So pleased my daughters and I wandered down the alley to find the delightful Smits & Bits which is tucked away off the main street. What a treasure trove we found!

We walked into an outdoor area which featured garden sculptures, large and small, tin signs, bird feeders and an array of awesome ornaments to brighten up your garden. Inside the shop, it was even more enticing! From delicate crockery and figurines to gorgeous art deco lamps and larger statues, the quality and range was amazing.

It was a mission to limit myself to just buying a couple of things as my eye kept catching one beautiful item after another. Another surprise was how reasonably priced everything was. The stock in Smits & Bits is priced to sell, not gather dust awaiting buyers.

I was tempted to buy a larger piece and the bloke working in the shop said it would be no trouble to ship it interstate. He was just excellent at customer service - cheerful, friendly and ever so helpful. It is no wonder Smits & Bits has been in business for so long with such fabulous staff and gorgeous stock!

I wish I lived near this little shop so I could visit often. Lucky Sassafras to have this business in your midst!

Wandering down an alleyway one would not expect what delights were going to be on offer. It was rather like Harry wandering into Diagon Alley. While a tad skeptical wandering in there on a rainy day being confronted by a few unusual things along the alley... once I entered the store I was taken back by how delightful and how well priced things were in this store. I took great delight in looking around on what was on offer.

I was so taken with a lamp in his store that I wanted a pair of them... the gent who owned the store kindly offered to order them in for me. Now the only downside of this was the lack of follow up service when things went wrong and I had the wrong lamps delivered. It became a bit of a comedy act after I had paid for them and the delivery was elongated and I began to question if they were ever going to arrive, as I had no feedback. But finally they did arrive and I love the lamps.

The lamps were not the only things I purchased from the store ... I found some really brilliant gifts for people. It's one of those stores that I highly recommend you step into and buy things on the day.

Great place for purchasing little gifts or something ornamental for the garden. It's quite an oasis with fountains trickling as you pass by. Check out the dolls house!

Has been in this location forever & easy to locate at picturesque Sassafras at this time of year. Well made garden sculptures, water features, unusual & usual giftware displayed in a Euro style patio setting. Live musician too. Definitely visit - there will be something for you..

Not quite an arcade ... more a sneaky corner. Smits & Bits is awesome. If you visit Sassafras in the Dandenong Ranges, you'll find this little cache up the hill on the left. Easy to miss ... so walk up towards the toy shop (Geppetto's Workshop) and continue up the hill. It's on the left amongst the strip of shops. Perfect for beautiful homewares, garden furniture and ornaments, and lighting. I'm not doing it justice ... you just need to visit to understand. The also have live music many weekends and a big fire pit on the coldest days.
