I would recommend this to anyone who likes to hike! Beautiful scenery that changes along the way. You also pass through preserved towns and a tea house where you can warm up and relax. I did this hike in mid November and foliage was beautiful.

Nakasendo goes from Tokyo to Kyoto but where it's conserved the best is near Gifu prefecture and Nagano prefecture which is closer to Nagoya. You can take train from Nagoya direct to nakatsugawa station, from where you can... More
Are there any maps or walking guides for the trail from Magome through to Yokokawa? I know there are maps from Magome to Tsumago but I want to go on from there.

You can continue walking on to Nagiso but I didn't see any information beyond that.

May I know what kind of shoes you would recommend for this? Will I need hiking / trail walking shoes? Or normal walking/running shoes are suffice.

the part that we walked between magome and tsumago is all well paved, parts with cobble stones and other parts asphalt or tiles. suggest shoes with a good non-slip sole as the cobble stones can be slippery when wet. hiking... More
