It’s a shame that such a beautiful creation of nature was turned into an incredibly dirty, disgusting, and smelly place. Horse and dog poop is everywhere and is washed into the ocean water. Nobody cleans up after the horse-riding tours. The poop is in all stages of decomposition. The bars on the beach and restroom facilities are surrounded by garbage and look like they are in a war zone. We walked to Conchal and decided that we won't be back. There are so many pristine beaches close by. Avoid Brasilito.

The beach at Brasilito is very empty due to the magnetism of tourists towards Playa del Coco and Playa Flamingo and other nearby beaches. There is plenty to do here in terms of restaurants, food and drinks. The beach is very secluded and thus makes for a relaxing excursion away from some of the busier beaches.

Playa Brasilito is a DIRTY beach, but the good news is that Playa Conchal (immediately south) is really nice! So, if you're in that area, be sure to opt for Playa Conchal, instead!

Dont come here if you are expecting paradise!

Brasilito is one of my favourite beaches..I live near here and I am just laughing at the reviews I have just read because what is described is what you may find in any CR beach town..The difference is Brasilito is very small so you may have a bad experience that can be relayed to others..I brought my dad here because we wanted him to have a full on local experience, and he loved it.We took him walking the beach and then to Indira bar and then to a local beachside restaurant for a cerviche..I really really take offence to the bad reviews that have been written thus far..Costa Rica is NOT Florida or Tamarindo which has been cleaned by the police to make it acceptable for foreigners..Brasilito beach is beautiful and full of character,if you choose to look past the surface, that its not a Palm beach resort from central America..It is a local beach, with locals and a local bar which is both endearing and different..If you dont want to mix with the locals go and stay in an all resort like the Diria.I have been here many many a time and never had anyone approach me about drugs! beautiful small beach which my dogs love and great old fashioned bar (indiria) This is Costa Rica.

There is a little cafe about 2 blocks down a dirt road, which parallels the beach, run by Jorge and Victor that offers the best, the cleanest, the tastiest food you could want, plus great coffee, good soothing music, free internet and just a wonderful feeling of community -- all that and the beach. Breakfast around 9am and then on through the day and into the evening. Check it out. Great prices too !

This was my favorite location in Costa Rica! We stayed at Hotel Brasilito and really enjoyed it - wonderful staff and good food at their restaurant. We woke up every morning to a family of howler monkeys playing in the window outside, and saw a variety of critters daily. We met Jose the second day we were there and went horseback riding for two hours - if you're nice he will let you ride in the water, gallop, visit a sexist Macaw, and sit at a bar overlooking the beach for an hour drinking cervesa. Playa Brasilito is extremely low key and we did not see alot of tourists while we were there. You can take a ten minute walk down the beach to nearby Playa Conchal - however, we found that beach to be a bit overwhelming since all of the resort's patrons use that beach - if you keep walking you will find lovely warm water and a quiet place to relax. My boyfriend and I spent our two nights there walking the beach and exploring the small restaurants and shops nearby. I would highly recommend Hotel Brasilito as well as Jose's Horse Tours and overall Playa Brasilito as a vacation destination. Please do not be scared by the reviews of Brasilito - everyone was wonderful and very friendly. I would not recommend spending time here if you are a bit of a high maintenance traveler - you will get the full experience if you are open minded and do not want to pay to stay at the resort on Conchal.

Stopped by Brasilito and Conchal to do some horse back riding. Our tour guides name was Jose Matagalpa. He didn't speak English but luckily we know Spanish.
He gave us a discount on a two hour tour from Brasilito to Conchal and back. We stopped at a restaurant mid point and had a few beers and soft drinks. We even got to see some monkeys along the way.
Found a nice little restaurant called La Casita del Pescado where we had a nice lunch.
You can find all sorts of things to do there and the locals are more than willing to negotiate the prices for the tours.
If you are trying to get away from the more expensive touristic places this is the place for you.
Don't expect much as it is very rustic and less commercialized. People are friendly and willing to go the extra mile for your enjoyment.

The town itself seems, from an American perspective, a bit of a throw-back to easier, uncomplicated times. The main attraction, of course, being the beach. The center of town is easy to identify by a vacant looking soccer field and a handful of little groceries and restaurants sprinkled around it. All in all, there isn't much going on in town and that can be a good thing for some. Playa Conchal is visited by many and to get to this famous beach, you have to drive through Brasilito and over Brasilito Beach. Thus, there is much traffic in Brasilito - more than you would expect for a small town. BTW: Walking to Playa Conchal is about a 10 min max walk from the town. It's amazing.

We stayed at Conchal Hotel and found we had to walk down the main road about 5 minutes to get to restaurants, the beach etc. 5 minutes isn't anything until you are vying for a foothold as 6 cars race by you on a narrow two-lane not even attempting to give you berth. If I were mayor of Brasilito, I'd invest in sidewalks and some simple speed bumps. There are always a few people walking, but it seems the majority of locals get around by car. I grew to really hate that walk downtown.

Once out of their cars, Costa Ricans are a very welcoming people. We were always treated well and even engaged by the people we encountered.

We found a variety of food costs. In Brasilito the food prices seemed to be very fair. Often lunch for two would be about $20. Breakfast the same. If going into Flamingo and experiencing one of the fancier restaurants, you can expect prices of any American city. Things like water, soda, beer, etc... were always between $.75 and $2.50 with beer being on the higher end of the scale.

I guess that when you go on holidays and the place you stayed at is not what you expected or is simply awful, you will not share it with your friends, on social media, blogs, etc. No, you'll pretend you had a good time! That's why I trusted what I read about this place: a non assuming pretty little beach by the side of a small village, no big developments, a layback atmosphere and the perfect gateway to discover Playa Conchal.
Well... What a disappointment on arrival! The all place is really run down. It's dusty, noisy (not only the loud music from the crumbly bars but the incessant procession of cars and quads to and from Playa Conchal and this from dawn to dusk), dirty (a surprise compared to the spotlessly clean landscapes and towns we were used to since the beginning of our trip 3 weeks ago). Above all, that's the only time we were offered drugs only half an hour after our arrival.
I don't know what happened here but the all place is going to the dogs! Not what bloggers and reviewers of all sort were raving about. Until then we were enchanted by Costa Rica Natural Park and beautiful beaches. This was our first enormous disappointment.
So Give it a miss and head south towards more inviting shores...

Having been travelling around Costa Rica including visits to many of its totally undeveloped and stunning southern beaches, arrival at Brasilito was a shock!

We certainly don't agree that this place has charm and a local feel. In fact, the whole place was a mess, with endless quads, trucks and cars rumbling noisily through on route to playa conchal.

The bars were threatening to say the least and during two visits to the slightly out of town ATM, we were kerb crawled by ticos offering cocaine! Pretty scary!

The restaurants offered little choice and what there was to eat was crazy expensive.

Personally, I would avoid playa brasilito like the plague! It's without doubt the worst place we've been in Costa Rica.

We checked out early and moved south to Playa Grande. Little there but an awesome beach and friendly, not drunken locals!

I'm sorry if others views are not mine, but there are far finer spots in Costa Rica than Brasilito! Check out Matapalo, 40 minutes drive south of the touristy Manuel Antonio! Beyond incredible!!
