Initially we were disappointed that the chapel is a memorial, not the chapel where the carol was first performed. However, the whole trip was very interesting. It was wonderful to see the involvement of the local people in the celebration. The focus of the speeches, concerning the effect of Silent Night on communities around the world was touching and the... More

This is a very small chapel where the famous "Silent Night" was wrote and played for the first time. This place makes you feel overwhelming when standing there singing all together "Silent Night" song in the Christmas Eve evening.

We went for the service on Christmas Eve and it was a bit of a disappointment. Hard to hear the service as everyone was chatting around us. Didn't get to go inside as queue was too long. Massive crowds and almost crushed at the exit. I thought we all might sing silent night but just sung by a choir broadcast... More

Very quiet in the day and we were almost by ourselves. Interesting history of Silent Night especially if yoy are right into Christmas

It is a very small chapel, probably can seat about 15 to 20 people, the place where the Christian song Silent Night was sang for the first time.

Whilst we stayed in Salzburg, this was a very short ride to Oberndorf from Salzburg central. A 10-15 minute walk from the station down the river walk you find the Chapel. just follow the crowd coming off the train with you. On Christmas Eve, this is easy to find. Just follow the lights and the singing. Recommend that you do... More

We visited the Silent Night chapel and Museum on our visit to Salzburg. It was too cool to see the original sheet music where the hymn was written and learn all about the author. The chapel was too unique. If you are in Salzburg, this is well worth the drive to see. We took the Silent Night tour with Bob's... More

Sailing in the Danube River through Melk, Durnstain, Salzburg, and Vienna in Austria we passed in front of the famous Church in Obendorf where the song Silent Night (Stille Nacht Kapelle) was first performed. This was one of the best highlights of this cruise with my wife beginning celebrations of our 50th wedding anniversary.

Famous for being the birthplace of the song silent night this little chapel is worth a visit. Since mid '90's it is know that this wasnt actually the birthplace, the lyrics were writen somewhere else. Despite that it was still nice to visit. I had the incredible luck to be in the area around christmas when there was a good... More
