This castle was bigger and better than I thought it would be. There are some museum elements and ruins. You even get to climb the old staircase to the top of the tower - something you'd never get to do in the US. The main entrance is in the back to the left if you're looking at the castle from... We visited this castle with 8 of our Grandkids. The beautiful location, interesting structure and exhibition along with the well kept surrounding, made our visit most educating and attractive. Visiting this place requires some climbing and walking effort, due to steep trail to the castle, the steep walkway within the castle ground and a lot of stairs. In addition to... More

This castle was a highlight of our trip. It's a massive fortification built on top of a hill, with stunning views of the country side in all directions. You can walk along the fortification walls, tour the insides and climb up to the tower. There is great exhibits throughout, and the museum has some nice armour suit exhibits. Really well... More

The must if you are in this region. Arrive early as narrow road goes there and parking limited. Very large castle with 3-4 levels takes you at least 2-3 hours to go around. Good shoes and sun protection in summer!

The whole castle grounds are spread on about 4 ha. Most of the castle in ruins, some walls are being under reconstruction. Formally it is located - thanks to very complicated administrative borders - within Zehra village boundaries, and Zehra is probably the oldest settlement in Slovakia. Access by car from the east, to a much too small car park... More

Another UNESCO World Heritage site in Eastern Slovakia that is well worth the effort to see. Large (really large) ruins with some museum-like exhibits, an outstanding detailed walking tour available in English and other languages, and outstanding views. The torture room was just-so, but the bed chamber and kitchen exhibits provide an outstanding glimpse into life in an earlier time... More

This is the largest castle in Slovakia and is one of the larger ones in Europe. Take your time on the climb up as you'll want your energy to conquer the castle grounds. We arrived on the first Sunday of October and were told the castle is free for all the first Sunday of the month. Yay! Parking was also... More

Did notice the sign but it was September so no flying ant dared to cross our way:) The castle is huge and might be difficult to conquer but it's definitely a great photo session scenery.

Spišsky castle is one of the biggest European castles by area with impressive 41 426 m²! It was included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1993. The castle is situated above the town of Spisske podhradie, however the best access is from the other site of the castle where the road and the car park is very... More
