I always think of Bassenthwaite as being one of the more tranquil lakes with Skiddaw looming large and the accompanying fells gradually giving way to lower ground moving towards the Solway. There's plenty... More

As lakes go in the Lake District, it's an easy one to visit as the a66 passes it by. However once your out of your car you quickly forget the cars. If your on the north side even quieter. Just wish I was a good photographer to do it justice. Nature at its best

A beautiful looking lake It doesn't have all the activities that windermere or Coniston or derwent has. But it's pure beauty and worth visiting.

Bassenthwaite Lake is the only LAKE in the lake district. Great settings, not commercial like Windermere.

The only Lake in the Lake District ?? All the others are Meres or Waters. This beautiful Lake offers views of Skiddaw and the nesting of the Ospreys with plenty to do close by

At most times of the year, you will (if lucky) get the most wonderful reflections on this lake - in the autumn they are particularly spectacular from the Ouse bridge and and the car park halfway along on the A66. I'm not telling you where the best beach is though , it's mine! Large parts of the shoreline are inaccessible... More

A hidden gem of the lake district with some fabulous views of the surrounding landscapes. The road that goes around the lake is close to the lake making it easily accessible and offering good views for passers by.
