Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The church was closed the few times we passed by, but it pretty nice from the outside, and shows the typical architecture for the region, with the bell tower being separated from the church, and generally in front, as well as the fenced/walled off.
The village of Putre is a bit larger, with even a souvenir shop, as well as several restaurants and several hotels. Great place for exploring parque Lauca, salar de surire and parque de vicuñas.

You would not travel here to see this church alone but it is worth stopping in if your are in the area. One of a number of churches in the area that have been restored / rebuilt to varying degrees of quality. This is one of the larger, fancier more elaborate churches in the area. You should remember that you are nearly at the end of the world and not in central Europe so adjust your expectations accordingly. The alter is quite impressive and lavishly decorate. You cannot guarantee that it will be open but if it is closed ask a local and they will point you in the direction of the caretaker / key holder.

The church is part of the latino american culture, specifically the mix from aymaras and spanish people. Like every church in north, have some specific details which worth a short visit. Don't expect too much, because is little, and is just one part of a entire culture in the north of Chile.

I had a look while there was a mass being held. Have a look at the above beams, amazingly well kept. Floors were all waxed shiny and saints beautifully dressed.

I would not drive to Putre just to see this (or any other) church. The drive is nice, the city cute, and the restaurants serve llama. Nice for folks like me who will try anything, but the meat is tough and dry. I suggest something else.
