Great volcano, but can be hidden by its own clouds
Jan. 2020
This is a dormant cone volcano reaching just under 6350m, and has a continuously snow covered top. A great sight, but note that certainly in summer, it is often partially or completely hidden by clouds and rain. If you stay multiple days, you are more likely to have a good view of its near perfect cone shape. Rains are starting earlier and are heavier in recent years in the altiplano, best time to go is November and December. There are several viewing points, the most famous is obviously with lago Chungara in front.

Well worth the Visit
Jul. 2019 • Couples
We saw more animals at mid morning than early as had been suggested. The alpacas are friendly. Tons of bird life and you need to stop and listen to their calls. The pink flamingos were scarce.

Breathtaking view!!
Jan. 2019
The view around the volcano is simply superb!! As it was a bit cloudy the day we could not see the crater, but the view of Lago Chungara literally took our breath away!! A must visit place. Be careful about the altitude though.

Absolutely Mind Blowing

This volcano is amazing!! When the weather is good (I got a couple of days of beautiful weather) it's just unreal. It's a perfect cone and rises up to over 6000 metres. I was able to do some hiking under it and climbed a smaller peak and was just so impressed with the view from the top which took in the volcano. This was probably my favourite area in my two month long trip through Chile and Argentina!! Must see if you like the outdoor!!

Great views, a must visit in the altiplano
Oct. 2016 • Couples
From long distance is the Parinacota already visible and we kept seeing it while we were driving on the altiplano. With almost 6,000m a very high and perfectly conic volcano, which even looks big when you're driving around 4,000m altitude yourself.

From a different perspective try seeing Parinacota vulcan from the village of Parinacota....simply climb the hill in this village ...walk passed a LLama farm [you can pat them ] and then see a fantastic view of Parinacota volcan

Best climbing experience for a beginner! Like on Moon/Mars once you go over 6k
Jun. 2015 • Couples
Whatever you do, don't listen to the guides and don't gain 2000m of altitude in 8 hours (the first 1k by car) unless you want cerebral and/or pulmonar endema. Do it instead over 1.5 days starting from 4300 m base camp and up to the summit of the 6300 Parinacota Volcano. Try to be there in May for packed snow so that your ice crampons will make climbing and descending so much easier. Hire an accredited guide of course, a car, wear layers (modern equipment) and you'll be fine as the weather is mild.

Astonishing beautiful and challenging
Jul. 2014 • Friends
Close to the border with Bolivia, the Lauca National Park is exceptionally beautiful. It has special floral and fauna: I have heard that over half of the flora species in Chile are in this one park.
It also is very high (4400 Meters above sea level) so that breathing is quite difficult. One has to walk very slowly to avoid stressing out! It is worth it!
