Cable cars makes everything easier, but they draw people too. Suggest to stay overnight at B&Bs in Tetav village Sunday and visit the Monastery and the surrounding area on a quiet Monday when the Cable car service is closed. Standard taxi fare to and from...More

above a gorge with plenty of greenery. Pretty towers and a modern belfry and beautifully carved entrances. Liked the 17th century oil press.

Now it’s easy to access this by cable car but it used to be hidden, isolated monastery located on the cliff. Big oil mill is well restored and it tells us monks in those days were having self sufficient lives. Khachukar in the glass box...More

Great way to get to/from monastery is Tatev cable car (the longest in the world). Also monastery is big, nice, with functional church. Try to get a guided tour. Some shops and restaurant also there.

As always, I find the views more impressive than the monastery itself. This is a nice monastery, no question about that, and it is currently undergoing some refurbishment. Nevertheless, the views are stunning and the main reason to why I enjoyed visiting Tatev.

The reputation of Tatev is significant - therefore, we planned a day-trip from Yerevan to get there (and back). The intermediate Monasteries of Khor Virap and Noravank were good, particularly Noravank which is outstanding, it's a MUST visit place. Tatev is about 4 hours from...More

You won’t feel like you’ve wasted your time visiting this church complex, even if you’ve visited other ones before. There’s a lot of history in this spot, even though it’s been renovated and doesn’t look ancient anymore. There’s a lot to learn and the usual...More

Interesting complex of a historical value but still generally under restoration so the grounds are full of rubbish and dust with ongoing works within the monastery.
