Herculaneum Visiting Herculaneum from Sorrento is easy to do yourself. Catch a train from Sorrento to Ercolano. Cheap - a few euros each way. Return tickets available. Frequent train service. Ensure you get off in Ercolano Scavi - travelling from Sorrento, there is another Ercolano...More

Good view point and there is a small (very small) museum with a Roman boat in it - do not miss this on your visit. You can get some good photos from here and see the skeletal remains in the dock enclosures quite clearly.

The terrace is an interesting viewpoint over Herculaneum. Providing an excellent view over the top of the city with Vesuvius in the background and seeing the previous shoreline is certainly interesting and something that cannot be appreciated with pictures.

The main photo here of La Terrazza di M. Nonio Balbo shows the most interesting and informative view of the Ercolano archeological site and old seafront. Ercolano is a much easier visit and more compact than Pompeii and we were so glad we used a...More

An amazing walk in the past. Sad to read how they had died but proof how advanced they were. Try to go early morning 8:30 when it's quite with a possibility of getting a museum parking.

From here you get an amazing view, it sets the tone of the place and gives you a real feel of what it must have been like in its heyday. Definitely a must do.

To preface this review, we approached this without prior research. We also did not get a guided tour or audio guide and went purely off the information booklet and signs provided. We went here before heading to pompeii which we visited at 1.30pm by comparison....More

When we entered the site, self guided, we walked down the tunnel and initially visited the Boat House area. Thereafter, we climbed the steps that took us to the Terrazza. As you enter you are immediately drawn to the large central base with cherubs and...More

Taki g the audio tour you stop in this area first and it is the perfect introduction. Many people took the likely entrance but down the ramp and through the beach area is the best way to start your tour.
