The temple is located near Echmiadzin. During the restoration of the Cathedral in Echmiadzin, it serves as its replacement. Here at present the Catholicos communicates with his flock. Very good preservation of the Church and the surrounding gardens contribute to the mood.

Surp Gayane Church nearby is a church built over the grave of St. Hripsime. It's a rather plain looking Church otherwise with the usual cross stones and grave stones surrounding the church grounds.
