Require 4 wheel drive. We had to do hard trek about 45 minutes. The views were magnificent. A little clarification is required: Single Tree here refers to mobile towers at the Summit :(. It's possible approach from Town also. We couldn't get view from the summit as it was fenced. We couldn't explore further as due to thick fog

We were expecting to summit to a viewpoint with an iconic tree but there’s no such place. The whole area up the mountain from the temple is known as single tree hill. We drove and parked at the temple and walked from there on - approximately half hour uphill (not steep so easily doable with kids). You end up at a telecom / radio tower - behind that there was a pathway through a forest stretch that leads to few bushes ... there was a path way down but we didn’t know where it leads to and since we had to get to our vehicles at the temple we took the same route downhill. It’s a decent walk if you have nothing else to do.

Single Tree Hill is a must visit if you are holidaying in Nuwara Eliya
It's a 30 mins drive through the Tea Estate to the top of the Mountain from the Welimada Road turn on Single Tree Road on 4 Wheel Drive right to the top and if a Two Wheel Drive then you have to park the Vehicle 1000m before the Top of the Hill and if it's walking to the top from the Welimada Road turn off then it would take approx 90minutes as advised by the locals in the Area
We went on our Vehicle upto 500m before reaching the hill which is now mounted with three large Communications Towers of the mobile operators
The view from the Top of the Mountain unravels the spectacular views of the entire Nuwara Eliya Town including the beauty of the Pidurutalagala Mountains, Gregory Lake Landscapes & Haggala Mountains clearly and with so many other scenic breathtaking views from the Top and on the way to the Hill and on a clear day part of the Adams Peak and Sunset views has been visible as per the locals living in Nuwara Eliya.
This is the 7th largest mountain in Sri Lanka with a height of 6890 feet above meansea Level and what's unique is that it's easily accessible and we were so glad that we made it to the top during our weekend stay in Little England.

If you are looking for a hidden trekking path in Nuwaraeliya, this is the place to go. You can travel to Single tree by a tuk and the there is a path to Shanthipura viewpoint through jungle. You will see some unseen views in Nuwaraeliya and it is really mesmerizing.

Really nice and easy walk up to the top, through a temple and tea plantations, with a great view at the top.

From there, there is a single track going through vegetables tarraces and a nice direct of tall nilgiris, up to the wonderful Tea plantations of Shantipura. Much more quiet. From Shantipura, you can take a tuk-tuk to go back to Nuwara Elya.

You can park your vehicle at the Single Tree Buddhist temple. Please try to tell them about your visit to add some respect. From the temple you have to walk. It is fun. We walked with our two kids. You can have a spectacular view of Nuwara Eliya town from there. The top of the hill is closed due to security reasons since there are communication towers. The climate and environment change rapidly when you go up.

Walking up from the buddhist temple you’ll discover the beautiful views of Nuwara Eliya. Don’t expect too much. On the top we did not really find the viewpoint, grass has grown that high that you can hardly enjoy the views. But if you turn right near the fence and walk along it you can find the place to enjoy the lake view. Good tracking though)

Single Tree Hill is situated at Nuweraeliya town and it is considered as the 10th highest mountain (2105 m) in Sri Lanka.
It is just a small hike from Nuweraeliya-Badulla road. There is a gravel road which is good for a four wheel and I would like to recommend to walk along the road as it is scenic. You can enjoy the view towards Piduruthalagala towers, Gregory Lake and Hakgala mountain. Swarnagiri Temple is situated at middle of the path and summit of the mountain is occupied by communication towers. Sri Pada and Hatton area can be viewed from the summit of the mountain.
We spent about 1 hour to hike Single Tree Hill mountain.
