El Portal on route 140 is closer to the Yosemite Valley as the motel rates will demonstrate. Rush Creek in the next closest on this route 120 road entrance, but much farther that anything in El Portal.

Check with the park, as I recall the only tunnels are for the climb out of the valley, two or three tunnels, the rest is relatively flat on the flats. I would think they are as high as the long tunnel from the southwest... More
