drive along rt 864 for about 40 minutes and you'll reach the parking space right above the waterfall. the street is unpaved but doable for most of the path without many issues. after a short walk you'll be right there: the waterfall is amazing, but...More

A long drive from the Ring Road, but worth it. We parked at the West Side parking area and first headed over to the Dettifoss, utilizing the well marked and paved trails. Viewing areas near the falls and then further away are fairly easy to...More

The biggest waterfall in whole europe ! You should definitely see them even if the road to get there might become bumpy, take the gravel one, not the asphalt one !

We viewed it from the east side (dirt road) and it was impressive. This side is not wheelchair accessible, where I think the west side has viewing platforms. The east side does offer a better view of canyon past the falls.

You can tell the area has recently - for better or for worse - has been developed with nice walking paths, railing, parking and WC's. It's 15-20 minutes off of route 1 and then a 10 minute walk to the falls. Impressive, tall and powerful...More

As I live in Iceland, I have visited Dettifoss multiple time, and every time I am impressed and proud to be Icelander. It does not matter if you visit from the east or west side; it is incredible. The road on the west is paved...More

Beautiful waterfall!! It is well worth the walk down to it . Walk to Selfoss as well. Waterfall We went in the early morning and were the only ones there. There is a large free parking area.

Dettifoss lived up to my expectations. We took the west side route there so nice paved road on route 862. From what I could tell the main difference is on the east side you can get closer to the water/falls. The falls face west so...More

Amazing waterfalls 28 km from the main road Choose the red route not the old road (864) ie east side as if you go that way the road is terrible and you'll need a 4x4...we did and saw loads of people in trouble

Must see if you are in the area. There is another waterfall called Selfoss not too far from here. Prepare yourself for a long walk/trek though. I ended up walking/trekking 3 kms

East side is a little more interesting for photography but it can take a little more time to reach as the track is a bit rough and you will be forced to drive slower. If this is in summer that might not be such an issue as... More

You could see most of it in an hour but we enjoyed sitting and watching the water too! There was no charge for parking and some (not very nice) toilets near the car park.

East side, especially for photograph. After visiting Dettifoss, drive 1-2km north to Hafragilsfoss where you can get a view over the canyon. The east road is quite bumpy and closed in winter (better check the road condition... More
