While other monasteries in the area are bigger, or better preserved, or hold more interesting things, this one -built around the top of the rock, instead of on top of it- this small monastery is truly eye-catching. The interior paintings and iconography are worth the...More

This was the best monastery I visited. Its "footprint" is small but there as several levels. They still use the windlass, although now it is motorized, to bring up maintenance materials.

A bit of a hike about 200 steps. Worth the steps, small monastry not crowded like the others which seem to be very touristy. Allow approx 30m inside should be enough time great views of the balcony area where the wind comes through and cools...More

The climb is worth it The views are incredible on this smaller of the monasteries. The architecture is spectacular and thinking that they used to have to climb up with wooden ladders just a few years ago is daunting. Well worth the climb

Stunning Monastery. Fascinating place to visit despite a bit of a climb. The feeling of calm and spirituality one gets is most rewarding.

They all get rave reviews. This one if the 1st in a series of monasteries as you wind up the mountain. Not as high up but equally as pretty. Maybe not as spectacular, but the views are still awesome.

Closest monastery to Kastraki. There are some really nice frescos inside and awesome 360 degree views on top. It is also 1 of the quieter monasteries to visit as well which makes it a nicer experience.
