City Hall in Cape town features the balcony from which Nelson Mandela gave his famous speech on his release in 1990.
That's a good enough reason to visit it, but the building is pretty impressive regardless of it's history.

you can only view the facade and not enter the building. There has just been erected a statue of Mandela to mark his 100 years on the balcony where he gave his speech. Made it worth stopping off at briefing.
