What a great place to take a day trip from Buenos Aires, just a couple of hours on the ferry across to Uruguay, great colonial era architecture, some cool boutique shops and some pretty good restaurants..
Interesting town with lots of historic buildings. The Portugese and Spanish influences in the buildings tells an interesting story. In some places the cobblestone street surfaces are quite uneven. Wear appropriate shoes. The entire town is very clean.
If you go to colonia del sacramento it's worth walking to Puerta de la Ciudadela. Colonia del Sacramento is a very beautiful city and my boyfriend and I regretted we didn't sleep over. Nice and cozy restaurants with candle light... beautiful place !
The gate was originally built in 1745 and then rebuilt in the 1970s. Can walk through the gate and climb up to the old cannon. Great area for pictures. Be sure to walk along the wall to the beach at the end of the day...More
The tourist area and museums are small. This is a place you would spend an afternoon at while driving somewhere.
