4 people from our tour group took a taxi from San Cristobal to here and shared the cost. The taxi waited for us while we hiked up the volcano - easy trek . Beautiful crater lake at top with many frigate birds flying over it...More

The moderately strenuous hike up the flanks of an extinct volcano are well worth the experience. The crater is now filled with fresh water and is the source of a stream fresh water descending to that supplies the needs of San Cristobal residents. The birds...More

This lake is beautiful and mysterious (it's like there shouldn't be a lake up there, but there is). It's often foggy but I think that adds to the mystery of it. When we were there, we saw many frigates swimming in and out of the...More

Often shrouded in cloud, the walk through the mist was aleasure on a hot day. Lagoon was not visible during our visit, but the walk was refreshing and path well maintained.

We stopped here on the way back from Puerto Chino. Although it was very clear and sunny at the beach, up at the lagoon it was still cloudy (and much cooler, which was a nice break, and helpful while you're climbing all those stairs.) The...More

Took a taxi tour to the highlands part of the island. This was my first stop before Chinco Beach and the Tortoise Center. A nice hike to the top where you’ll see hundreds of frigate birds cleaning the salt off of their feathers. Make sure...More

Our driver dropped us here. The sign said it was a 30 minute walk. It is straight uphill so be ready for a hike. After walking 40 minutes we were on the summit and could only see about 30 yards in front of us. We...More

We rented a taxi and visited this fresh water lake, 700 m above sea level. There are spectacular panoramic views at the top. We were lucky as it was clear! We heard that often the crater lake is misted in and the views are limited...More

This has been my research site and so I am biased, but the lake is spectacular so long as it is not cloudy (then you can't even see that there is a lake). The only permanent freshwater lake in the islands. Great walk (easy) around...More
