We visited these caves as well as the Longmen caves. Both are remarkable although Longmen has a greater “wow” factor. Keep in mind if you do go to Datong that it is a coal city and the air is often polluted.

A wonderful place, it’s a must visit place if you are in Datong. The place is amazing, love how they make a big buddha statue in the cliff.

A must visit place outside Beijing, Albert 1600 year history and still some parts well remained, make sure visit this place with a cool weather, decent walk and over 40 caves to check
