We drove all along this large lake from Puerto Varas to Frutillar. The scenery was lovely, towns interesting, beaches inviting. One can see the Osorno volcano across the lake on a clear day. We especially enjoyed sitting by the lake with a cup of cappuccino...More
Lovely little sea-side village with a great beach and views of nearby volcanos. Unfortunately, it was rainy and overcast when we were there (February 2018) but we enjoyed walking through the town and getting some photos on the beach.
Looking to head to the beach in southern Chile? A great resort is Lago Llanquihue, with a nice beach, views of three volcanoes, and a nice town (Puerto Varas) nearby. It is somewhat off the beaten path, but that only adds to its color. The...More
We came to Puerto Varas as part of Celebrity Cruise excursion out of Puerto Montt, Chili. Lake Lago Lianquihue is the second largest lake in Chili with about 870 sq. miles. The town and the large are framed by Mt. Osorno, a snow capped volcano.
Stopped at Puerto Varas on our way back to Puerto Montt. Most of the group went to see a local church. Lots of hotels and restaurants. Gateway to Patagonia. Would be an
interesting place to stay for a few days. Great view across the lake.
We had a great lake tour from Puerto Varas to near-by cities
( Frutillar , Octay ) , and actually there is a lot to see.
If you like sceneries and great views, this is an absolute must.
A nice lunch by the lake front,...More

I recommend you to leave Puerto Varas northward and enter the next town called Llanquihue (same name as the lake). Look for the waterfront and continue along the Lake in the direction of Peninsula Punta Larga and Frutillar. This very charming city is divided in a touristic area at the shore of the lake and then you have to go to the upper side to take the road to Puerto Octay (north). All along the road there are good signs as guide.
After visiting Puerto Octay another small city founded by the settlers, you must continue down the road to Osorno. About five kilometers to the north, you will find a detour from the road to the right and a sign that says Las Cascadas and Volcan Osorno. This paved road also will take you direct to the volcano and Ensenada.
In Ensenada you may deviate to the left to go visit the Saltos de Petrohue and Todos Los Santos Lake or if you like to go back to Puerto Varas you turn to the right.
It is not so difficult. I hope to have been able to help with a grain of sand so that you can enjoy your trip.
