Limited shopping and limited authenticity, but I loved the ways it has been newly constructed to show how it was. Overwhelming beautiful in architecture and entertainment, particularly the light/laser/computerised images synchronised with music and water fountains. Night climb to the Wall, a great other experience.

This is a recreation of an old water town, apparently it is less than 5 years old but it looks like it has been there a thousand years with ancient willow and vines on the buildings. Yes, it's touristy and expensive but it is large...More

Nice enough, a bit expensive thou. It is a faux town outside of the center of Beijing. You can get a bus from Beijing South or Dongzimen.

An interesting staging point to climb the Simatai stretch of the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall is about an hour from Gubei if we track up by foot. However there is also a cable car that can take up to within 500 metres...More

Most metro trains have their last journey start at 23:00 (next train @ 05:00). You should be able to get a taxi (around $7). Have a look at the Rome2rio travel app. It says the walk would be around 1.5 hours. Not smart... More
