After paying a small admission fee a visitor walks to the distant Citadel entrance. Inside are lanes with old shade trees and different buildings of importance. There are changing exhibits and as vocal point.... a huge carved precious stone turtle. I am not sure about...More

I've read some luke warm reviews about the citadel and I must say I can't really agree with them. It is what it is, not much is left but the large main gate and the flag tower, but there are still lots to discover here...More

Although this is a UNESCO site it was severely damaged by the French in the late 19th century. On reflection it is worth a visit - if you can imagine it being a Palace and how important the site/buildings were for rulers of the day.

Rather deserted but worth a visit. Try going early as its cooler then. You can see some ruins being excavated but the main feeling is one of peace and desolation giving the place an air of abandonment save for the occasional tourist or worker you...More

Plenty to see from exhibition of finds to paintings. Well worth visiting when in Hanoi. Good clean toilets even though there are no doors. Plenty of photo opportunities.

Reminder, the Citadel is closed on Mondays. Other days the gates are open. I had to return on Tuesday to visit the Citadel.

worth a stop, its interesting and you can still see the cannon marks in the supports, so it reflects lots of local history a flavor, should be part of city tour stop. Yes its alo very big!
