- annminkyUnited States1,602 contributionsNice View from the TopIf you want to escape the businesses of the city, take a break and ride the cable cars up to Chandragiri Hills. There’s nothing like going up the hills for some peace and quiet. Cable cars can hold up to 8 people at at time and will take at least 40 minutes one way. While riding the cable cars, be sure to enjoy the valley below and the spectacular surroundings of mountains and hiking trails. At the top, you will find lots of people enjoying the view, riding the highest zip line in Kathmandu, visiting the nearby temple, or enjoying a delightful snacks. There is also a small playground for the little ones. Don’t rush yourself walking up. You’ll see signs that says “walk slow “. Truly, just enjoy every step and you’ll feel good once you get to the top. You can enjoy this place in a few hours.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 30 March 2023

- keerthi.g1 contributionToo goodThe cable car is good and looks safe enough. The crowd was less. Starts around 830 am. Closes around 5 pm. There is a break from 12 to 1 in the afternoon everyday. So plan accordingly. Safe with kids and elders. We get snacks and tea also on top of the hills. Breathtaking views. Nice temple on the top. Must visit when we go to Kathmandu.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 13 November 2023

- sylviaGlasgow, United Kingdom6 contributionsGreat day trip!It takes at least 45 min to get to the lower cable car station from Thamel by car. This is an efficient modern business, clean toilets, freshly cooked food and helpful staff. On a clear day the views are spectacular! I was lucky to get a good morning ( best to go early as cloud seems to accumulate as the morning goes on). The whole Himalayan range from Annapurna to Everest ( distant, but visible through the binoculars at the tower viewing level) could be seen. There is a temple, some children's play areas, horse riding and the zip line too. However, the majestic mountains are the reason to make this tripVisited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 5 March 2024

We got a taxi from our hotel which was about one kilometre from Thamel. The journey took about 45 mins. The taxi driver said he would wait for us and we agreed we would spend a couple of hours up the top.
The queue for the cable car didn’t take long and the ride up took about quarter of an hour.
I found it quite cool up the top and was glad of my fleece, my husband was fine in his t shirt.
The view was lovely, but due to the time of year, it soon got hazy and so there was less to see.
The zip lines and swings etc., we’re all operational, but again, no one was using them because of the cloud.
The food up there was reasonably priced considering it was a captive audience. It was all cooked fresh and was very tasty.
The staff were very friendly and attentive.
It was a lovely way to spend a few hours away from the madness of Kathmandu.

Such a unbelievable natural beautiful location hotel with great staff like Mr. Himkat Rawal at restaurant and very cooperative staff at fromt desk like Mrs Roshni baniya and Mr. Santosh Darai but also little bit disappointed with rude and uncooperative behavior of Mr. Santosh kumar and Mr. Sagar Swedi we formd that almost all staff of this hotel are happy to help in all our needs only they 2 people (Mr. Santosh kumar and Mr. Sagar Swedi) are upfront say No to small small thing.i am mentioning this because this will not happen in 5star hotel like chandragiri hill hotels..
Rest we are very happy with our stay at chdragiri hills.

Overall it was a nice place to visit. Is it a must? As for me no. The atmosphere was nice. Bathrooms are dirty and smell. It's must be a cultural thing. Everybody spitting everywhere. It's not nice where I come from. We find it disgusting. But this seem to be a cultural thing. My overall experience in Nepal was nice. Will I visit again? Maybe.

How much is the cost per person for chandragiri cable car? For the SAARC country people..
Shyam Tandukar

INR 700 for both way cable car ride.
Can u go by car up to the resort

No, the road is closed.
Can i hike down the hills without a hiking guide?
joshmarsha
Kathmandu, Nepal38 contributions
Hikes are possible if done totally meaning, going up and down by yourself.
If you use the cable car, you are charged for a return trip, so they do not have the option of one way cable car and return by hike

Is it ok go chandragiri hills by bike
Navyo Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal1,324 contributions
Hi, you definately can go from Thankot uphill riding, quite steep, so you have to have good legs... You can from the top of the pass divert to Chandragiri cable car top station and furter to Hattiban, or descend in the chitlang valley and further to Daman or via Markhu (there are some Guest Houses) to Khulekhani and drive back to Kathmandu passing to Dakshinkali and Balkhu to Kathmandu. Did it myself on a moto bike in one good day, by mountainbike i suggest to stop in Markhu by the lake and enjoy a good fresh fish ... make it a 2 day tour. BTW i lived 10 years in the area ad did several trips to Chandragiri and beyond to the Terai ore roud trips like above or also through Daman ...
