    Relaxing
Lots of boats to choose from. Ours was €12 for an hour. Not a lot to see but relaxing and enjoyable. We went early, 10am and had the boat to ourselves for first part. At 10.30am a good few more got on and glad we weren't on it in afternoon as it got very hot

Nice to walk beside through the old town.
The Ljublanica canal runs through the old town and is a focal point of the old city. The famous Dragon bridge and Triple bridge run over it. It looks fairly clean which is nice. Its nice to sit beside in one of the many cafes and have a beverage while people watching and watching some of the little boats that run up and down it. Its just a part of the city focal point that you don't really notice as its not an overly wide or exciting or visually impressive canal but it is an important part of the city features.

    Best to walk along river
River running through Ljubljana is very narrow so it’s more like a canal than river. You can do fairly cheap boat rides for around 10 euros that go for 45-60 minutes, however I enjoyed walking at random along river and stopping every now and then for photos and something to eat or drink. Try to enjoy some of the locations during day and night as some areas lit up at night time is very impressive. Lots of wonderful bridges to see along the river.

Nice relaxing enjoyable river boat ride with local guide
Today (4pm 25th Sept) I caught the boat shown in the main photo. There are at least three different boats on this stretch of the river. I caught the one that you can pay for with the Ljubljana city Urban card. There was an extra 4 euro to pay for the local guide. She gave an enjoyable talk to accompany the 45 minute boat ride up and down the river near the main part of Ljubljana. She was well worth the 4 euros, in fact I afterwards thought I should have tipped her at the end. It is worth taking a boat river ride as it is good to see the old town and nearby green spaces from a different angle. The bridges and the green spaces slightly further out particularly. There was a short stop for a comfort break and to get a drink.

    A restful boat ride
We took a boat ride on the river that was included as part of the Ljubljana Card that we purchased. The river is more like a canal, crossed by multiple bridges that lead to and from the city's Old Town. It isn't especially picturesque in itself, although some of the bridges are. The boat ride lasted about 45 minutes, first heading south/west a bit past the Cobbler's Bridge, then returning back the other way a bit farther than the Dragon Bridge, before letting us off at our starting point, near the Ribja Bridge. The canal ride was calm and fairly restful, and we did see some swans and cygnets, as well as multiple kayakers on the river. It was a good chance to relax and enjoy some of the sights, although not especially exciting.

14 bucks for a 60 minute boatride. I enjoyed it. Seen some wildlife and got a better look at all the bridges.

Following our 3hr guided walk, we decided to wander along the riverbanks as a way to relook at all the main attractions in a leisurely fashion and snap a few more pictures. The rain had finally abated, the sun was shining, folks were strolling, cafes were filling up, and it was free.

I must admit that we began our amble after enjoying an aperitif at a café that lined the river.

During our morning tour, we learned that the Ljubljanica River, formed by the waters of nine karst springs coming from the Piuca river, is the river that flows in the city of Ljubljana and laps the beautiful buildings of the historic center and the various bridges that cross the Slovenian capital.

Totally picturesque, besides being a natural barrier, and an additional mode of transport, it made sense that settlements were established here being with the Romans.

We did debate whether we should take a boat tour, but determined that we would not see anything much different from walking along both banks. Besides, we wanted to reward ourselves for all the “exercise” by picking up a gelato!

I enjoyed the vibrant, youthful, and relaxing atmosphere along the river. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to take a break or linger until sundown and mingle with the locals.

Boring canaltour, only the first 10 mins you see the Old town and then “countryside” with No sights.
Don’t spend the 12 EUR
