I take our dog for a walk along the esplanade in the summer. We go to La Forchette and La Vista. Very nice restaurants and the tapas at La Vista are very nice. That way you can get varied options to share.
I took a Lime scooter along the waterfront trail to St Heilier's Bay and loved it. Easy to get there, lots of cute restaurants (I had breakfast), book shops, vintage/consignment, etc in the town and the beach itself was gorgeous with craggy cliffs, white sand...More
Auckland may have a large population, but, it has a huge amount of beautiful bays and beaches, and we are so spoilt for choice. Enjoy to the full - restaurants, have a picnic, just drive and enjoy the views :)

It is a lovely walk on a fine day, approximately 90-110 minutes, with many opportunities to photograph the coastline and other features. On the way a visit to Kelly Tarlton's Sea World would increase the time spent in the area, but would offer a day's visit in all! Alternatively, brunch or coffee at Mission Bay as an interlude would not go amiss. Enjoy!
