Back when I lived there in the mid 2000's there was a better selection of shops to suit my tastes. Today many of those quirky shops have gone (even the ones on K rd). I don't particularly think Auckland CBD is anything special, certainly not as good as Melbourne City. Queen

Nice street with a lot to see and do. It is full of nice restaurants and shops and some limited night life. The small streets off Queen Street are also nice to explore. Allow a couple of hours for the walk.

It starts at Queens Wharf and runs up the hill for about three KM and is the main thoroughfare un Auckland and a fairly typical strretmin a major town with one or two historical buildings such as the Auckland Town Hall.
