Although most Norwegians are nominally identified with the Church of Norway, only about 2% attend church outside of Christmas and Easter. Generally, Norwegians are baptized, married, and buried within the Norwegian national church, few attend with any frequency.

One of the first things we saw on our scandinavian trip was the Oslo cathedral. The ceiling is painted, rather than sculptured or plain, very attractive, with what looks like a fiery circle around the central chandelier. The pulpit? that elaborate stand for the minister...More

A few minute's stop in this simple building is enough to calm and find your peace, dearest passenger... This is how the churches have to exist, to stand there, a simple shelter for any person. Without 'heavy' sculpture or any other 'magnificiency' that make me...More

This is third cathedral in Oslo and built originally 1694-1697 and rebuilt between 1848-1850. Reconstruction was designed by German architect so it has Central European flavour. Cathedral was renovated 2006-10. There are beautiful stained glass windows and big organ. Every hour between 07 and midnight...More

The cathedral is a calm oasis. Inside the windows brighten the cross shaped aisles and all give a very different perspective.
