The section on prehistory (i.e. from 9000 BCE to 1000 CE) seems to be better than the gallery on the more recent periods. Archaeological finds are clearly presented in a consistent way. It is quite remarkable that they have dug up so much when the...More

As a Finn, I rarely go to museums in Finland and am now thinking that I should go more often. Biggest part of our visit this time was in Nick Brandts visiting exhibition, but the part of permanent exhibition left an itch of coming back...More

Ideally you need half a day to really take in all this museum has to offer. You could skip the lower ground floor gallery as this deals with prehistory, and concentrate on the lavish clothes, furnishings and more on the other floors.

There is a lot here to excite those interested in ancient and medieval Finnish history, and culture. And there is a lot about Finland's religious history. The building itself is very very impressive. But, Finland's real story (and it is a very interesting story!) really...More

A fresh and multifaceted look at us Finns was first created for our national centennial two years ago. The exhibition on the second floor answers the questions "where did we come from" and "what has formed us most recently" in many interesting ways. Visitors are...More
