The Modern Collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum might well be seen to start where the Founder's Collection ends, and in more ways than one. After Gulbenkian's death in 1955 his Foundation was established, and almost immediately began to...more

We spent over three hours and wished we had more time. This founders collection is very broad in scope and all pieces are beautifully displayed and with explanations in multiple languages. The modern collection - which is in a separate collection provides an excellent history...More

I like modern art and so I felt this would be worth a visit. There were some interesting pieces and I learnt quite a lot about the history of Portugal. I didn’t come across anything that struck me as ‘wow’ but there were one or...More

A lot on offer including a well priced cafe, interesting gift shop and beautiful garden to wander and sit in after visiting the exhibits inside the museums. Spent all day there! Definitely value for money.

Very modern and, to be perfectly honest, a somewhat hilarious collection of artifacts that if they weren’t in the museum, might be mistaken as random items in the street. I guess it takes a renewed sense of intellectual appreciation and patience to fully understand what...More

We began with the historical art from Egypt forwards. Stunning pieces from each era were in that collection. After an excellent lunch break at the cafeteria we walked through the delightful gardens to the modern art museum. Terrific sculpture collection as well as a lot...More

We entered through the main collection, then walked through the grounds to the contemporary. The contemporary art was ok. The walk between the two buildings was beautifully landscaped but not very handicapped accessible because of grade changes. Galleries are air-conditioned (cool) which was great on...More

A fairly average collection of modern art, mainly a national collection. But a real trial for wheelchair users. The track from the main gallery is tortuous particularly in the rain. The entrance doors are far too heavy and there is no assistance. To access the...More

As in every large city, there are tourist traps, unsavory areas, and pick pockets. Our guide was quick to point those out to us, making us aware of where to be careful. Lisbon is a very very safe city, but it's a city non the...More

Although I am not a modern art fan, this museum impressed me. The walk between the two museums is fantastic and be sure to check out the ponds with turtles. Nice entrance to the Modern museum. The Modern Collection was included in the Founder's Collection...More
