This was one of those required stops on a tour we took, it was nice, we learned a great deal about pineapples and had the chance to stop in the gift shop and taste the pineapple wine. It takes approximately 30 minutes depending on your...More
The only things you are going to see here are greenhouses with pineapple and a gift store.
So if you are interested in how pineapples grow ( I always thought they do just like coconuts in trees!) then this is an interesting place.
We came to Arruda as part of a tour with Pure Azores. Our tour guide gave us a tour of the plantation and basically explained all the processes of pineapple growing. As frequent visitors of Hawaii, we're not stranger to pineapples. But the way they...More
Amazing plantation, strongly recommended. Free entrance, a lot of parking places. Very compact, but still very interesting. They have 17 greenhouses with different stages of growing. They have no tours, but you can ask for a flyer at the gift shop. It was amusing and...More
This is literally in town. Over 10,000 pineapples under cultivation in large greenhouses. The tour is free and our guide was informative and affable. We enjoyed the gift shop and opportunity to taste pineapple liquor and pineapples.

Great little stop to see Pineapples being grown in greenhouses. Nice cafe with lots of pineapple drinks and snacks, pineapple pasties were great! Lively shop too. Purchased some pineapple jam and mustard to try at home. Definitely a worthwhile visit.

The pineapple plantation contained many different greenhouses with pineapple growth at various stages. The PDL airport sells the pineapples in a cardboard "box" that are approved to bring to the US. However, if you are flying from Lisbon back to the US w/ a stop in PDL on SATA airlines, they will not allow you get leave the restricted boarding area in PDL to purchase items at the gift shops! That sucks. I wanted to pick up some pineapples and a few other things on my way back thru PDL but there I sat looking thru the glass walls at all the gift shops and was not allowed to enter to purchase. If I would have known that in advance I would have purchased the items when leaving PDL for Lisbon.
