Wonderful lake, train and cable car round trip from Lucerne. Awesome! Well worth doing. The vistas are truly amazing.

Unfortunately the weather was not cooperative. Rain and clouds obscured the view from the top. However, I would recommend the trip anyway because of the scenery on the trip up and down the mountain was spectacular.

While staying in Lucerne, we decided to take a day and visit Mt. Rigi, the most popular mountain destination of the Swiss people. It stands at 1,798 meters, about 6,000 feet, and is surrounded by three lakes with magnificent views of the Alps. We began...More

What a place to really see all of Switzerland from. The official survey of Switzerland was completed from this location. As Mark Twain said, the most perfect place to see the Swiss Alps in the morning from!

Half day hike zigzagging via Alpenhof and Seeboden with spectacular views across lake Lucern and through the forests makes this a very varied hike up the Rigi

The train ride is not very exciting when compared to Jungfrau trip or Titlis. The view on top is however fantastic. We spend some time and took the train back - fought against the idea of trekking down and taking the train from an intermediate...More

Although the mountain is beautiful, the signs for hiking on the mountain are abhorrent. Both on the Mark Twain Trail, and Number 5 trail fro Weggis to Vitznau we’re confusing or non existent. Not a pleasant experience.

Hello Emily B, thank you for your interest in Mount Rigi. It is indeed possible to hike all the way down to either Weggis or Vitznau. From Rigi Kulm you hike at first to Rigi Kaltbad and from there you follow the signs in... More

Dear Mick, as you are based in Weggis I recommend to take the cable car from Weggis to Rigi Kaltbad. Rigi Kaltbad is a middle station and a perfect departure spot for many hikes, easy to difficult ones. One of our favourite... More
