Many people miss this place going from Berner´s Bears directly to Zytglogge (Horloge) and market streets. Don´t hesitate to go down the river Aare and to feel old times in an old fishery neighbourhood.

Sure, there are not a lot of exciting sites to see in Matte, however, if you have time in your agenda, do walk along the river to Matte. It's a relaxing walk compared to the hustle and bustle of the central streets of the Old...More

Access by stairs, road or elevator from the cathedral park, this is still one of the coolest places in town. It has covered walkways as the upper city, a few nice craft stores, a few very nice restaurants and ample spots to watch the river...More

Read about the special language used in the middle ages in this part of town. A kind of 'secret language' not to be understood by the upper class Bernese living in the upper part of town. Interesting!

our guide book said this was a mud not miss district- maybe we missed the bit they meant. Was pleasant for a short stroll but wouldn't recommend a detour if short of time

Not much to do down there. A couple of restaurants. Few shops. Water works. Trendy neighbourhood. Needs a museum or display to explain its historical significance.
