The cathedral is very nice with 2 particular works of art: the illusionistic cupola fresco of the Assumption by Antonio da Correggio and the bas-relief of the Deposition from the Cross by Benedetto Antelami. It is wonderful.

Inside is spectacular and no charge to go in but worth sitting down in the piazza opposite the front façade and having a close look. It has some of the earliest images of meat curing, which is what Parma still is known for today.

Parma's cathedral dates from 11th century, when construction started on the building to replace a basilica that ws destroyed by fire. There are frescoes by Corregio as well as monumental religious art. Well worth seeing. . .

Fabulous interior and visited it during Verdi Festival. Upon entering the organist was practising The Force of Destiny overture and this created an extra treat. Even without the music the cathedral is worth visiting.

Walking across the Piazza del Duomo on a rainy morning we found the doors to the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Parma closed. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, it is supposed to have fantastic interior fresco's especially on the main dome, but unfortunately, we were...More

What stand out in this cathedral are the artworks which cover pretty much every inch of the ceiling, the dome and the wall. There are a couple of cash boxes one can put money in to activate the light for better viewing of the artworks....More
