Take a walk over the bridge - Both sides possible but one is very popular and wow the locks!!! I have never seen so many the weight must be fantistic. In the morning the sun shines on the locks and the colours are brilliant. Walk...More
It is a must to do on your list while travelling to cologne. Situated close to Cathedral, the bridge is filled with locks of different shapes, color & sizes. Enjoy the serene view of Rhine river and surroundings from here. Usually crowded with tourists taking...More
Like Joshua crossing the River Jordan, you can walk dry shod across the Rhine on this wonderfully elaborate bridge...and if you wander down to the embanked, not only a splendid stroll, but lots of places to pay homage to beer in every iteration.
This bridge is a fairly unique and strong bridge boasting a modern design which stannds out across the city. I travelled over it several times and the cityscape view was pleasant. Worth visiting if you're in the area.

I would also recommend bringing your own. Just make sure that it is fairly sturdy. There are so many locks already attached, that flimsy ones are apt to be smashed and lost. People are now resorting to climbing up the supports to find places to attach their locks. Quite amazing. We even saw a few "antique" locks - one about 6 inches long with a raised lizard carved across the face...lots with names and dates. Quite a sight! Enjoy!
