Unless you e done everything else in Paris, don’t bother with this area. Just a small canal wedged between traffic filled roads. Water is full of algae. I found it to be a big disappointment.

The walk gets nicer the closer to Republique you get. I don't know of any boat rides down the canal, but I see that some who have reviewed here may have taken them. I wouldn't recommend that. Just stroll the Canal and get the to...More

it looks a little bit like a canal from Amsterdam but then with high bridges to cross it. The canal isn’t wide but lengthy and is a joy to stroll alongside it. Plenty of bars and restaurants along the walk. Its quite a quiet place...More

Besides this costing you 22 euro each, you will find yourself sitting through a monotonous 9 lock process of leveling the water to enter the lower ( or higher, depending on the direction of your trip) section of the canal. The only interesting, for a...More

It was a very enjoyable journey, with good commentary, visiting what was once an industrial area, but has enjoyed a renaissance. A realising way to spend a couple of hours.

Has become dirty and a shadow of a few years back. Litter everywhere, dirty water instead of hordes of people sitting around chatting while sipping some wine on a warm evening.

Start at the Place de la Bastille and walk down the side of the canal to end up right by the river Seine. I did not intend to make this walk, however I read the map upside down when looking for somewhere else and so...More

This was a great, slow-paced way to see a different side of Paris. Loved it and will do again on our next trip to town.

Canal Saint-Martin
The tree-lined Canal Saint-Martin is the focal point
of one of the most romantic and hip areas of Paris.
Watch boats travel along the canal while lovers and
friends take in the atmosphere from the banks or the
bridges. Evenings see hoards fill the embankments to
drink wine and enjoy good company. The colder days
lead people to hipster bars, cozy restaurants, and
concert spaces. Those who are more adventurous may

We went there from Metro station „Republique“, a few blocks walking distance, through an area with many bars and restaurants. At the canal all was pretty peaceful
