Went just for a quick look round but turned into a fascinating guided tour with a brilliant guide. The guide was well informed and brought the school to life. Unfortunately we didn’t get his name but hopefully you’ll get the same one.

The tour guide was wonderful, engaging and interesting. we did not know any of the history of this free grammar school. But thoroughly enjoyed the tour and we spent about an hour there.

Travelling through the Lakes we arrived in Hawkshead as planned for a lunch break, and to visit the church plus the grammar school. Sadly we had not taken note of the fact that the school, not unreasonably, closed for lunch and with a tight schedule...More

We popped in at 10am for one of the ‘on the hour’ guided tours. Very reasonable charge of £2.50 for an adult, and child was free, so still delivering free education! :) Guide was very knowledgeable on the history of the school, how it had...More

Although only two rooms this is well worth a visit. The guide is incredibly informative, and explained, among other things, why the children were encouraged to carve their names in the desk. He also pointed out the various rare artefacts held by the museum, including...More

We paid the few pounds to get the tour. The gentleman was extremely knowledgeable and the information was outstanding. Places and stories like this is imperative for future generations. The carved desks, the interesting stories of the students and headmaster was a true delight. If...More
