Everyday I would start my day here. I would have breakfast most times in one of the restaurants facing the Zocalo. It is a great place to people watch. There are demonstrations there occasionally against the mistreatment of the indigenous people. There are many vendors...More

A good place to get the flavor of Oaxaca. The town square that is teeming with people and vendors, and lined with restaurants.

I was disappointed in the Zocalo. Apparently the govt "renovated" it some years ago. I thought it would be like Spain where I could sit and observe the old folks sitting and chatting away. Not so. Didn't spend much time there. Probably worth a visit.

I loved walking past it and listening to so much live music that seemed to always be on! The trees are beautiful, there's lots of people watching, treats to eat, street performers, and plenty to shop.

If you like crowds this place is for you, but if not then it's to be avoided at all costs. The good thing about it is that it's traffic-free, so you can walk around without danger of being run over. There are outdoor restaurants that...More

We visited during Dia de los muertos week and it was the best experience ever. Food, music and shopping all in one spot. I really enjoyed how people from other countries got into the celebrations.

One of the main plazas in Oaxaca City, the Zocalo is a perfect spot for an evening stroll. It is surrounded by restaurants and local food and craft vendors. It seems as if something lively is always happening in the square.

The Zocalo is the heart of the city of Oaxaca and it seems like there's always something going on there. Culture, souvenir shopping, good food, and lots of local flavor.

I did not see any that looked directly upon the Zócalo but there are probably a few directly surrounding it!

I was in beautiful Oaxaca the first two weeks of June 2016. At the time the protestors were mainly in the zocalo area, although there were a couple of very large protest marches one block from my hotel. I never felt... More

We finally stayed at Trébol, just two blocks south of the Zocalo, and directly across from the big Benito Jaurez Market; we love it and it was unbelievably inexpensive. See my review posted 2 March 2016 -- the first of many... More
