In 35 degree heat in August, this was a fairly intense but incredibly beautiful ride. We hired bikes from Rent a Bike / Scooter in Stari Grad and we rode to Vrboska which is a settlement founded in the 15th century on the north coast...More

A lovely day cycling from Stari Grad to Vrboska. A UNESCO world heritage site with some of the oldest continuously cultivated land in the World. Beautiful and virtually flat. Rented the bikes from Hvar unlimited in Stari Grad (70 kuna pp) who helpfully delivered a...More

When I told the host at the guesthouse that I am walking to cape Jabal he was very surprised - perhaps because of the distance. But he didn't have any information, not sure if he actually was there himself..! These places are so underrated and...More

Stari Grad Plain is a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the few large flat areas on Hvar, agricultural plots were laid out by Ionian Greeks from Paros in the 4th century BC, when they colonized the area. The grid of fields illustrates the land...More

Our tour guide told us all about this interesting area with a fascinating history - shame it is not fully utilized today.

A unique chunk of history close at hand to the town. Very little has changed here in 32 centuries - wow.

We rode our bikes from Stari Grad all the way to Jelsa through the Stari Grad Plain. There are numerous markers along the way that explain a bit about the history and location which are well worth the read. There are countless fig trees (we...More

We journeyed across the backbone of Hvar Island to this small port city adjacent to a large, very fertile plain. I say this because most of Croatia is made up of limestone rock! Although lavender season is over, on these rocky hills is where they...More

This plain, which has been farmed for centuries, was a peaceful, beautiful ride. In addition to passing various crops here, you can ride toward the hills to be surrounded by lavendra. A great way to spend a day!

I hired a bike in Stari Grad (100 krona for a half day) then rode across to Dubovica beach on the other side of the island (about 10km). Some steep inclines of 10 degrees then through a tunnel. The cars were cautious to give me...More

Hi, it took us 15/20 minutes to cycle to V and maybe 10 to cycle to Jelsa. We came back by a different route which was well worth doing. It was hot so bring plenty of water. It's a fairly easy cycle to do.
