- Mellyec710 contributionsA lovely experience. As a family of Equine lovers we enjoyed our visit. We did the self guided tour and there is information on each horse on the paddocks but I would suggest a guided one is possible to gain more than the basic information. A lovely tribute garden for the horses who have lived out their retirement there. A simple but delicious lunch is the cafe finished our visit. It was a hot day when we went and there is no shade so go prepared.Written 26 April 2024
- wandmt20230 contributionsAverage experience. The old house needs a lot of work. The cafe was good. On a self guided walk the horses didn’t really want to know you so it was hard to distinguish which was who. We did manage to get close to a couple of them as we followed a feeding group around. The toilets were a disgrace. Absolutely filthy and smelly and right next to the picnic area. No excuse for this mess.Written 4 November 2023
- KiwiAussie010 contributionsHappy HorsesGreat day had with retired race horses. Living Legends like Brew, Who Shot The Barman & Rogan Josh to name a few. Definitely do a tour as you get so much more out of hearing the stories of each horse, their likes & dislikes, and who visits. With a bag of chopped carrots and lots of pats, you'll enjoy spending time with the horses. Finish off your visit with a cuppa tea and scones up at the homestead.Written 5 May 2021
- AusFrequentTraveller0 contributionsMislead - DisapointedWe were excited to find out that Living Legends did complementary pickup and drop offs from Melbourne Airport, so I messaged them on Friday to organise a pickup for Sunday morning. They responded with the office number to call and said they would love to see us Sunday and they open at 10am 😊. When we called on Sunday, they told us they don’t do pickups on weekends! 🤔Why didn’t they just tell us that when they messaged me back instead of leaving us thinking all we had to do was call today to confirm. Just common curtesy. We checked the Uber cost, which was $50 for 6 minute return trip, so decided not to go. I was happy to support the project, but not if that is the way they treat people.Written 29 February 2020
- Jeff A0 contributionsScones to die forSat outside watching the aircraft take off from nearby Melbourne Airport and devoured the delicious scones on offer, big enough for one serve, light and fluffy with fresh cream and jam, do yourself a favour and visit, you may even get to see some living legends..Written 11 February 2020
- dandmthomas0 contributionsFantasticWhat a great day, we were greeted by Anne on arrival who was helpful and polite. We were given a tour by Danny who was extremely knowledgeable and had a great rapport with all the champions. If you are a punter or a horse lover it is well worth the trip.Written 13 January 2020
- 874ank0 contributionsGo, but join the tourThe bad We did this but on our own as we wanted to time our flight. Bad idea, as most of the horses did not bother to walk up to us. The horses were fed on the tour before we arrived. Kids ended up being pretty disappointed. Also we were in a rush, only had less than 1 hour which is a bad idea. Wasted $30. The good Lady at kitchen was welcoming, charged us $30 which is discounted for 2 adults and 2 kids. 2 of the horses saved the day!Written 7 December 2019
- rfctiger280 contributionsLiving Legends = Music roomI had my 50th birthday high tea in the music room. The room really met my expectations with piano and harp. I had 17 people and they fitted nicely. The scones were huge and really nice. There were sandwiches quiches cupcakes fruit tea and coffee and juice. The price is also another winner. The staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem. Really recommend this place and the room.Written 7 April 2019

- 905trishv0 contributionsMsThe best Devonshire tea in Victoria. Wonderful day spent at the homestead. The scones were absolutely amazing and the coffee was great. Thank you Ann for your tremendous hospitality. Ann was very sweet and her scones were amazing. Will definitely comeback.Written 7 January 2019
- Aj S0 contributionsAmazing!Living legends is absolutely unreal for any racing fan or horse lover in general. Even though it was raining heavily half the time, the two lovely staff who ran our tour (Chanelle and Frank, I think.), were incredibly knowledgeable about all the horses, had great stories to tell, as well as being super friendly, and enthusiastic, despite the weather. Chanelle took heaps of photos of us with the horses, including some absolute beauties, which was really lovely. Overall lovely property, incredibly interesting, and something every racing fan should have on their bucket list to do.Written 22 November 2018
- 975darlenew0 contributionsTrue Legends of the trackAmazing views . Great hosts that walk you around the yards and give you details about the horses. The horses what can I say amazing they love to have pats and treats . The afternoon tea Scones the size of damper and hot coffee and tea. Look around the homestead so much to see. The gardens are beautiful too. The staff are 10+Written 9 November 2018

- PennitDarwin0 contributionsHistory, Horses, Homestead and HappinessWhat a lovely place to visit! A very fitting end to our amazing 10th annual Horse Trip! We are a group of friends who enjoy going to the races and every year we choose a destination. This year it was Bendigo. On our way back into Melbourne, it was decided we would add a visit to this lovely place for morning tea, a tour and lunch. What an excellent choice. We were blessed with a beautiful day and the horses were a delight. Lovely fresh scones with Jam and cream with choice of tea or coffee set us up for a walk around the facility, some did the lot and some sat under a shady tree(that would be me!). Then it was back inside for lunch as the warm sunny day had brought out the flies. Lunch was a wide variety of delicious open sandwiches, and huge cheese and fruit platters. Wine and beer are available for purchase or tea and coffee was included. A fabulous day, and a wonderful finish to our 2018 Horse trip.Written 21 July 2018

Wow what a great day out. We visited Living Legends today 27/3/2022 and had an amazing time. To see these enquire champions up close and feeding them carrots was as good as it can get. They are beautiful and have great personalities. The guide and her assistant who was on work experience added to the experience and like all of us present clearly had a close for these wonderful athletes. The location is steeped in history and is a real sanctuary yet so close to Melbourne and it’s airport.
The rest of the staff including the tall girl in the living legends attire while served us the scrumptious scones and tea as well as the young girl behind the counter were also a credit to the organisation.
I thoroughly recommend a visit and booking a tour as it really is a great day out.
Cheers

We absolutely loved our guided tour of the Living Legends, meeting these beautiful horses for the first time was an unforgettable, sureal experience. The tour guides were very knowledgable and the horses were all such characters! We feel especially priveliged to have met the magnificent Might and Power, who was the first horse who greeted us on our tour. We are extremely saddened he has since passed. He was the King of Living Legends and one of the greatest racehorses of all time.
The devonshire tea we had was really lovely, and the homestead, property and staff were all amazing.
I could not recommend it more highly. Will be back again asap with my Mum and other family who have a keen interest with our famous racehorses past and present.
Thank you and i will post some photos when i get a chance.

Well what can I say. It was a dream come true to visit this beautiful property. It was a bucket list experience. We did the Grand Day Out package and it was well worth it. On arrival we had the most amazing freshly baked scones with Devonshire tea and then went on a personal tour with Taylor as our guide. To see these amazing horses living life was truly magical. Taylor was amazing and truly loves what she does and after the tour we had a beautifully presented grazing platter and lunch. Everyone there was so welcoming and friendly. Even the CEO himself came and introduced himself to us. It’s a must thing if you are a horsey person like me.

Only seats for 10 (including the driver) the rest have to walk. Which is fine but being told that at the beginning would have been better.
Rude parents with teenagers your adults took all the seats and the oldest 4 couples made to walk. At no time did the parents tell the kids to give up their seats. Young guid who was delightful did ask if we had mobility issues.
The guided tour is not worth it as you go to exactly the same horses and on the self guided tours you read the signs. On the guided you get carrots to feet the horses.
We had scones before and they were delicious

Absolute amazing experience. What a great way to spend a few hours with these wonderful horses. Highly recommend that you do the guided tour, and the staff can point out which is which horse as well as getting up close to feed and pat these amazing animals. These horses are much loved by the staff and their knowledge of the horses racing career is outstanding. Living Legends is only 6 mins by Uber from Melbourne airport and is easily assessed from there. If you have a couple of hours to kill while waiting for your flight i recommend this and the staff will let you leave your luggage safety behind the counter. If you love horses, this is one experience that you don't want to miss. It was wonderful to meet these equine champions.

Our Probus club visited 23 March 2022. We started with morning tea consisting of two large delicious scones, jam and cream with tea or coffee.
There was a large golf buggy driven by our guide available for anyone who did not want to walk. Our guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and happy to answer our many questions. It was great to hear about the horses history and their personalities.

We had the most amazing informative tour of the majestic x race horses at Living Legend.
Even the 40°degree day didn't spoil our tour.
Wonderful to also see the cemetery where some of these champions are burried.

Did a tour of Living Legends, including lunch at Holgate Brewery and wine tasting at Hanging Rock Winery. Morning tea with huge scones, jam & cream at the homestead was followed by a fantastic guided tour of all the retired champion race horses, including some from Hong Kong. Tayla was a great tour guide. Her knowledge and love for the horses was exceptional. We then were taken for lunch and wine tasting by Tamara from Top Oz Tours. She was a great host, very professional and knowledgeable. Great day, would highly recommend.

We did the tour the day after Melbourne Cup, a very worthy reminder of how well some of the racehorses are cared for after their careers. We had a flight later that day, so we checked our bags at the airport, then LL picked us up to take us to their property (and dropped us back later in the day) for a small fee, which enabled us to fit in our visit.
The estate and gardens are beautiful, you can peruse the history of the homestead in the various rooms, whilst awaiting the tour. The kitchen is a hub of smiles, laughs and chatter and the girls that work there are so welcoming, just like they would be if you were in their own home.
Visiting the horses was delightful, they all had their own personalities, and most were very friendly, particularly when a carrot beckoned!
We also managed to stop for afternoon tea with scones, which I strongly recommend. You will not believe how gooood these scones are, they're reknowned for them, and the absolute best I've EVER tasted! (do NOT miss out on this)

Had the pleasure to visit Living Legends on quiet day and were able to tour the facility with our own private guide. The highly informative and relaxed delivery of information from our outstanding guide made the tour all that more valuable. The staff have a really genuine love of the horses and the jobs they do there and it shows in the smiles on their faces. We were able to feed the horses carrots whilst taking many photos of the beautiful horses as we walked around the easy to navigate, numerous paddocks where the horses were living out their retirement (some are still used for special events). All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome, We enjoyed a Devonshire tea which included the most delicious, enormous scones (you really have to try them), in a room overlooking the runways of Tullamarine airport. The gardens are beautiful, the homestead is amazing, taking you back in time to the 1800s. Memorabilia adorns many rooms, as does period furniture. If you are a racehorse lover and interested in Australian history you must visit Living Legends.
