A full course samurai training!
Jan. 2020
I joined the "samurai training program" for an half-day at the Samurai School of Aizu.
It was a really nice time as we could enjoy diverse activities with a just right timing.

Every activity takes place in the old Samurai School of the city (when Japan still had samurais) and it is a really gorgeous place. You feel like in a training camp !

First we enjoy the tour of the school where they explained what the young samurai training was about. Some of the things they learnt were quite unexpected.
Then we proceed to paint a wooden sword as we wished and we could bring it back as a souvenir.

The highlight is definitely the "Kyudo", Japanese archery, where the amazing sensei taught us how to shoot with a real Japanese bow.
I couldn't properly reach the target but I guess it's just me who was bad!

At the end there was the zen practice, which was just right to relax after that all afternoon (even you are not suppose to sleep and totally close your eyes).

A special mention to all the staff of the school, the main guide, as well as the ones dedicated to the activities were really friendly and took care of our group, while answering all our questions!

I felt it is an experience who felt really Japanese, with real explanations and no fake samurai stuff just to entertain us. I really recommend that activity to anyone who are looking to have quality time and feel the old samurai culture !!
