- 1The name Serengeti conjures up images of one of the last remaining wildlife spectacle on Earth. Those who have been there may witness the marvelous beauty of the thousands of herds of wildebeest and zebras feeding in the endless plains or crossing the Mara and Grumet rivers or giving birth around Ndutu area. Prides of lions, others resting or attentively stalking their prey. A female elephant teaching her baby how to eat and drink water and may be dung beetles rolling away a 10kg pile of elephant dung. Generally, the Serengeti provides a variety of habitats to thousands and thousands of wild creatures (birds, animals, reptiles etc.) roaming around from the savannah woodland dominated by acacia trees to savannah grassland, hills, and Rivers that flows across the park. Words can not express the beauty of the Serengeti!

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- terenw20240 contributionsExcellent safariI had a 5 days safari tour in February 2024, 3 days in Serengeti and last day in Ngorongoro crater, very lucky to be in the migration period and we saw almost all the possible animals. It was one of the best tour I have ever experienced, Shrike safaris was perfectly organised, very easy to comunicate with them for the organisation and everything, during the tour the guide was very confident and ready to help with everything. We had an unforeseen in the Ngorongoro but they were very good to reorganise my trip. I really recommend them for an unforgettable safari experienceWritten 6 March 2024
- lhothes0 contributionsSpectacular views and nice hikeA really nice hike with spectacular views. Both the driver and the guide were professional and pleasant. All in all a very good experience.Written 22 October 2023
- tracysA729ZY0 contributionsAwesome!!!Custom trip starting and ending in Arusha, with Denis as our guide. Denis was fantastic - sharing his knowledge about the animals and the area. Always felt safe with him. Went to Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire on 6 day custom tour. Lucky to see the Big 5, plus so many other amazing animals and sights. Food and accomodation great (mid-range). Loved it, and would do it again! Mark was great in planning the trip with us. Very thankful to have had such a great experience.Written 2 October 2023
- haylean20230 contributionsThe BEST safari operator in TanzaniaMy husband and I are incredibly thankful to Shrike for all that they did to make our honeymoon in Tanzania one of the best trips of our lives. Shrike is one of those companies you can trust. During the planning, they were easy to communicate with and Mark and Bob always responded to my countless emails (sorry!). Shrike was very willing to tailor the trip to exactly what we wanted, including hiking Ol Doinyo Lengai, and Empakai Crater. They welcomed us at the Kilimanjaro airport and we immediately knew we were with good people. The guides they select are also the BEST. We were fortunate to have Dixon as our guide during our safari, who ensured that we saw as many animals as we could (got the big 5!). We also appreciated Dixon's careful driving (the streets of Arusha can be crazy!), and willingness to explain the animal's behavior as we observed. We truly learned SO much. Simon was our guide in Zanzibar and he was incredibly hospitable and welcomed us graciously to his island. Our tour of Stone Town was very interesting and we learned lots! Shrike booked all of our accommodations during our 2 week trip and we were impressed with every single one. The hospitality in Tanzania is top-notch. They even surprised my husband with a bottle of wine and cake on his birthday. My husband and I have never booked a travel company prior to Shrike, as we are typically more of a do-it-yourself couple, but we were SO glad we did for this trip. I will be recommending Shrike Safaris to all of our friends and family. Thank you Mark and team!Written 30 September 2023
- oMagdalenao0 contributionsAmazing safari day trip to MikumiAmazing experience. Everything was as planned, and on time. Very quick responses to plan the safari. I totally recommend. 1-day safari to Mikumi included driving to so many different spots, I was able to see many animals. There were also meal breaks. The driver was really attentive and informative.Written 29 June 2023
- 562frederikh0 contributionsMachame routeMy friend and I was going to trek Kilimanjaro on the Machameroute 7 days and the trek was amazing! We are happy that we did 7 days instead of 6, because you then have good time to relax and acclimatise, so the chance for having a great trek to the summit is bigger. The team was really nice and helpful every time we had a question and it seems like they had a good overview of everything, and as we could see also treated all employees good and respectful. Overall we had the best time and are never going to forget the trek. A tip is to look at the internet for a good packing list and try to find it used or bring it from home, because it’s expensive from new and to rent is also expensive but really good things you getWritten 21 June 2023
- 35jellam0 contributionsvery niceIt was a really really nice trip!! Very well organized and the driver had a lot of knowledge. We also saw so many animals, I would have never thought. But only 4 out of 5 because they told me other people were coming on the trip as well which was not true.Written 6 March 2023
- funvacy0 contributionsThe wonder of SerengetiOur Tanzania trip from airport pick-up to drop-off which included the Serengeti, Ngorongoro safari and Zanzibar beach holiday was organised by Shrike. Our point of contact was Mark and he did an amazing job with attention to the smallest details making it a memorable and stress free vacation!! Our safari guide was Denis who is friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable. He made sure we saw the 'Big 5' , wildbeest/zebra migration and spotted a whole lot of animals and birds. We even caught a rainbow 🌈. The safari is in itself an unforgettable experience with the endless plains of Serengeti stretching as far as the eyes can see but the warmth and smiles of the local people embraces and cocoons you. For a customised trip where you are taken care of always and made to feel special Shrike is the way to go!!Written 24 January 2023
- annaiL9867WN0 contributionsSafari with ShrikeWe had an amazing safari with Shrike. We enjoyed a trip from Arusha, through Ngorogoro, Serengeti to Mwanza, full of lovely lodges, amazing nature from tentcamps, the big five, the big migration and our guide Chacha could tell us a lot about both animals and plants. He was a very good guide, very skilled, and knowing when to tell a story and engage in a conversation. We where very much included in the planning of the trip, which was adjusted to our specific wishes. Furthermore, the car was well equiped - the good binocular did a big difference. The only thing that was a bit confusing was the tips. Even though the agreement stated that tips where paid, it seemed like the people at the accomodation still expected tips. But as was the the only concern, i must give my warm recommendation to use Shrike!Written 20 December 2022

- Manima4210 contributionsUnforgettable ExperienceShrike safari provided a luxury experience for our group from start to finish. Experiencing a safari is a life altering occurrence, but it is an even better experience with such a great company. As an initial matter, the scheduling and logistics were seamless. Shrike accommodated our dietary restrictions (vegan) and provided an unforgettable dining experience of eating breakfast and lunch in the midst of the beauty that is the Serengeti. As a bonus, we had an extremely knowledgeable tour guide, Mark, who made it his mission to ensure we saw the “Big 5” and so much more. Once our private plane landed in the Serengeti, we were immediately greeted by Giraffes. Next, we were captivated by Lions, Cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes and hippopotamus in addition to antelopes, zebras, baboons, impalas, mongooses, ostriches and too many birds to name! Shrike Safaris and Mark made this trip one to remember.Written 10 October 2022
- Angeldjv0 contributionsAwesome 4 days Camping SafariWe went on a 4 day camping Safari with Shrike from Mwanza to Arusha. We visited Serengeti and Ngorongoro. We had a lot of fun and saw many different animals. Their attitude was always very good. Our guide Paul tried his best to show us all the animals and Jamal cooked us really good food. Mark also did a great job briefing us before the trip. Overall, we had a great experience with Shrike and we would definitely recommend them.Written 16 September 2022
- 313beccag0 contributionsAvoid this company - cannot be trustedA word of warning to anyone thinking of booking a safari with Shrike; an untrustworthy and deceitful company. I lived in Tanzania for many years and booked to go on safari in April 2020, because of the pandemic the safari was postponed. I waited patiently for over two years and trusted their reassurance that my safari would be rearranged. After reopening in June 2022, I was in contact with Shrike once more, a very slow back and forth which ended up with me running out of time and having to return to the UK. Shrike assured me that I would be able to get my money refunded and that was the start of countless dates being promised and then broken for the money to be returned to my account. I have been in contact with the Shrike offices and the director Mark himself. I have now been waiting for 2 months for the money to be returned to me and they are now ignoring me. I am writing this review as a warning for others. This company cannot be trusted.Written 5 September 2022

- Karlos_Macca0 contributionsAmazinf Safari experienceMy wife Meghan and I chose Shrike Safaris for a 5 day/4 night Safari of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. We are so glad we did! From the start, Mark was extremely helpful in providing us with all details of the trip and tailoring a Safari to suit us, making life easy by arranging flights from Zanzibar to Kilimanjaro Airport, and organizing transfers to Arusha, where we met our brilliant guide Nimrod and started our adventure. Nimrod was an exceptional guide, providing many facts about the animals and also teaching us about Tanzanian culture. We enjoyed his company for the five days and felt lucky to have him as our guide. It was great to see him interact with all guides as we drove. There was a great camaraderie between the drivers and guides and we even helped another group try to get unstuck from the mud! Our accommodations were of a high standard, and we were always well fed throughout the trip. (The coffee at the Hhando Coffee Lodge was delicious) Due to Nimrod's knowledge, expertise and patience, we saw all the animals we wanted and the the spectacular scenery of the of the Plains and The Crater. I highly recommend choosing Shrike as your safari guides when in Tanzania.Written 27 March 2020

Truly a once in a lifetime experience for people all ages, would definitely come again if given the opportunity. Prices might seem steep but are reasonable considering that everything(accomodations, meals, drinks) are included. The guides are knowledgable and kind, and they do their best to ensure the best experience for us travelers. Special thanks to our guides, Ben and Edward. Asante Sana!

The experience with Shrike was excellent from start to finish. They aim to please and offer a very personal and memorable experience. Communication was great even before we left the US to get there. I felt very comfortable doing business with Mark. Their price was very reasonable, as well. Visiting Serengeti has been a dream of mine since I was about 7 or 8 years old. Watching animals shows with my dad was a favorite past time. We didn’t have a lot of time and wanted to maximize our stay in Zanzibar. and visit Serengeti. Mark delivered top notch service from start to finish. He arranged pick up from the airport in Mwanza and got us sorted at hotel that he recommended. We met with him in person and he was asked us what we dreamed of seeing. My husband can be a tough customer, but Mark’s excellent service won him over. Our driver, Henry was also amazing. We had a night of excellent food and service at the recommended hotel: Henry picked us up promptly at 5:30 am and we were off. We stopped for breakfast at campsite run by a local family. The eggs, pancake and fresh passion fruit and avocado juice was delicious. We were warmly welcomed with Tanzanian hospitality and wished we could have spent more time there. The drive to Serengeti was scenic and educational. Henry shared all of the facts as we drove. We learned quite a bit about the local way of life. As a school administrator I was very intrigued by the many school children all dressed in uniform walking to school. We arrived at Serengeti around 8:30 AM. Within a couple of hours, we were able to see most of what we came to see. We had seen so much, we had an early lunch. It was quite tasty. The beauty of Serengeti was all that I dreamed. As I allowed the wind to blow across my face as I stood atop and looked out from the Land Rover’s top, I felt immensely blessed to have had this experience. Mark and Henry with Shrike earned all of the stars.

We had an excellent experience on our Serengeti Day Tour. Driver picked us up early morning from our hotel in Mwanza to drive us a few hours into the western entrance of Serengeti. We seen wildlife soon after we entered. Driver was great and made sure we saw a little bit of everything (elephants, lions, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, leopard and more). They served us breakfast & lunch. Great tour operator. Competitive price. Highly recommended.

We were picked up promptly from our hostel at 0530 and, after a 2 hour drive, had a good breakfast before entering the park with a packed lunch. We had close-up viewing of many animals durng the day including lions, hippos, crocs, giraffe, monkeys, baboons, wildebeest, warthogs, zebras, impala and topi. The highlight was coming across a pride of young lions practising their hunting skills on a herd of wildebeest. After 8 hours game viewing we got back to Mwanza at 1800. If you haven't got time for a full 3 - 5 day safari this is as good as it gets.,

This was a very enjoyable trip. The driver was very punctual and courteous. He also tried very hard to find the animals we wanted to see. However, the driver was a little uncomfortable with his English skills, and, consequently didn't tell us all that much about where we were going or about the different species we were seeing.

I recently had the incredible one- day trip with Shrike Safari's to the Serengeti. Paul my tour guide was incredible; he was knowledgeable, fun, and was always excited to see the animals. The trip highlight for sure was seeing a leopard- which I hear is very rare- even the guide was excited. I would definitely recommend this company to my friends and family if they want to have an incredible trip to the Serengeti. I will for sure be taking another safari from them in the future. Thanks for an incredible day

It was an enjoyable experience indeed.... Considering that we booked so last minute (2 days before) and that everything happened in one day, it all panned out very well!
We were promptly picked up at 5.30am by Paul, our super cool Safari guide (he drove the whole day while helping us to spot the animals), napped comfortably for a couple of hours on our way to the Serengeti. Had a good breakfast (and also lunch later) before entering the national park.. weather was also amazing; sunny yet breezy .... We saw hundreds of wilderbeest, zebras, topis, a few giraffes and hyenas... our highlight was stumbling upon a pack of hippos, 6 elephants, 3 pairs of lions and then after a pride of 9 lions ... all in close proximity! We exited the park by 5pm and arrived back in Mwanza in time for dinner.
Thanks for the wonderful experience Shrike Safaris! 👍👍👍
