- Freedom7585900 contributionsGreat surf school, easy five stars!I brought my friends, who had not surfed before, for a lesson st Karrawa, I was so impressed with this surf school! The instructors were so thorough and encouraging! The 2hr lesson was broken down to two parts: theory on ocean safety and how to handle the board in the water, practice on this, followed by more theory on how to pop up and practice. I dare say most of the class stood up on the board by the end of the session. Everyone had fun. Brilliant outcome! Highly recommend these guys!Written 26 February 2024
- gretad9160 contributionsAmazing fun for all agesAmazing fun, great instructors...very welcoming to all ages....never too old to tick surfing off the bucket list.Written 13 April 2023
- Lanidavis1230 contributionsAMAZING!We are froM NZ and had and Amazing experience today and so little effort to secure a booking! Thank you so much for having us, we loved our surf lesson! The instructor was from our home town too which was an extra bonus, such a small world :) thank you so much!! Recommend these surf lessons to all 😀Written 12 April 2023
- W5796YBsk0 contributionsSurfing at BroadbeachWe had a 2 hour lesson with Blake at Broadbeach. Blake was easy going and calm, he explained the lesson plan and how to surf well. We were really pleased with the amount of one on one time in the ocean we got to practise surfing. Blake was able to set us up with waves so we could put into practice what we had learnt on land. We really enjoyed the lesson (and both got to catch several waves standing) and would highly recommend!Written 9 April 2023
- K1437ALscotts0 contributionsGo Catch a Wave- Broadbeach EXCELLENT!!I had the best surfing lesson (beginner) with Damo today. He was just a brilliant coach, knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic and encouraging person. Fortunate enough to have a 1:1 lesson and he continually helped me with my skills, technique and kept me safe within the water, whilst helping me “catch good waves” and successfully stand up and surf!! If you want a great company and teacher you can’t go past Go Ride a Wave- Broadbeach!!Written 15 January 2023
- P9996UWsandrar0 contributionsAwesomeThe instructor Damian was awesome. Very patient and encouraging. My 3 teenage daughters had a great time. Lots of fun and they all got up on the boards fairly quickly especially for their first attempt at surfing. Information and emails were all very informative and clear.Written 23 November 2022

- michellemM7177EH0 contributionsGranddaughter visiting from interstate surf lessonWe booked a lesson for my granddaughter who is 8 and was with us for a week on holidays from Sydney and I only wish now we had done this on day 1 of her holidays as it was the best money I spent all week. Mia had an absolute wonderful time with her surf coach Liam . Cannot praise him highly enough. So much patience and Mia was standing up after 45mins I was blown away and totally look forward to the next school holidays when she visits ago and surf lessons will be our first stop. Best money we spent all week. I plan on looking at getting a board to keep here for her. Highly recommend this company very professional, extremely reasonable prices and great coach. Thankyou for making my granddaughter so happy.Written 21 January 2020
- janecZ5053JB0 contributionsHighly recommendedOur 14 yo son did 2 lessons with Jason who was fantastic. He was friendly, chatty and very encouraging. The conditions weren't great for the first lesson and was cut 1/2 hour short, so he was rebooked for a second lesson. Highly recommended.Written 16 January 2020
- mikeyz20200 contributionsZander was GreatWent with Family and two kids to Broadbeach Qld ,did the lesson with Zander. They were nervous at first but Zander was great in making them feel comfortable. My son Josh absolutely loved it and wants to go back again with Zander.. Thanks ZanderWritten 11 January 2020
- amycV703AP0 contributionsgreat coach, good locationThis is our first surfing lesson and everything was explained in detail. We were given a red top so the coach was easy to spot us.They even provided sun screens. You can keep all your belongings in their locked van. I would suggest you bring a bottle of water to the beach. Because it got really thirsty to soak in water for 2 hours. They let us try knee on the board in the beginning and most of us can do it. Then they will explain more to teach how to stand up and a few of us success.Written 9 January 2020
- bronwyne8480 contributionsKind, fun & knowledgeable instructors! Our sons, 8.5 & 10, loved their lessons with Go Ride A Wave in Broadbeach. The staff were kind, funny & knowledgeable. They engaged brilliantly with the boys, a good mix of helping them and having them give it a go on their own all while making them laugh & smile. They were given the 3 session lessons as a Christmas Gift from their Grandma, the perfect holiday gift for kids who already have too much stuff - an experience they won’t quickly forget 😀 Thank You!Written 29 December 2019

Having just moved to the Gold Coast from Sydney, I finally decided to take up surfing at 32. With my partner Dominika we booked a 3 x lesson package.
Jason the instructor at Broadbeach was absolutely fantastic, instinctively knowing when to give guidance and when to just let you work through something for a wave or two.
His knowledge was excellent and he went above and beyond in not only explaining surfing and the ocean but also giving us loads of local knowledge like where to get boards and other equipment.
3 x lessons was perfect as we got 3 very different days condition wise and this was another chance for Jason's experience to shine through.
Both Dominika bought our own boards for the third and final lesson and Jason was able to give us help with our own equipment, although the hire equipment was great too.
10/10 recommend for anyone looking to learn a new skill or just to make the most out of their trip to the Gold Coast.
I'm going to practice on my board for a while then I'll be back for more lessons when I'm looking to step it up to the next level!

This course turned out to be a disappointment. There were 2 coaches for 14 participants, so we expected to be 1 on 7 coaching, which should be quite ok. However, the coaches had put rather much of their attention on only the younger participants. One of the coaches had basically been 1on1 most of the time with one of the kids. It is proper to take care of the younger ones, however, the proportion of time spent on the other students turned out to be really little, which was rather unfair.
Apart from 2 rounds of group coaching, my partner and myself had been mostly surfing on our own, especially my partner had received less than a minute of coaching throughout the session. We definitely expected more coaching from this class given its much higher price than renting a board (and watching some standardized instruction videos on YouTube, which was essentially the experience we had). It would be fairer if the coaches could have spent about equal time on each participant. It might also be better to separate the adult's and kid's classes.
We emailed the company for this feedback but never got a response unfortunately.

Our teenage girls had a fabulous first surf lesson. Jason, who ran their class was a awesome teacher - very encouraging and supportive. He made the lesson really fun and the girl's came away knowing a lot about surfing, considering it was their first experience.
Thanks Jason.
Thanks Jason.

We had a family booking 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 kids under 12. Damo was our instructor and he was brilliant. Took the time with each of us to make sure we all got up on a wave, his instructions were engaging and he clearly has a passion for surfing. Damo took the time to explain how rips form on the beach to all of us which I found interesting and useful. We had so much fun, it was both humbling and a highlight of our trip to Queensland. Thanks so much Damo! We plan to come back and do some back to back lessons again.

Hi there Nathan,
Thank you for the amazing review! We're thrilled to hear your whole family had such a great time with Damo—he’ll be stoked to know he made your experience special. His passion really shines through, both in the water and on the beach.
It’s awesome that you found the surf and rip information helpful too! We can’t wait to welcome you back for more waves and back-to-back lessons next time you're in Queensland.
Until then, keep the stoke alive!
Cheers,
Sam

The Instructor (Blake) was excellent with my 8 year old and 10 year old. The younger one struggled to stand up initially but the Instructor kept working with him until he could do it. Kids thoroughly the 2 hour lesson. Highly recommend.

My kids (17, 15 and 11) and I (49) all had a brilliant time learning to surf. Blake was terrific, helping everyone experience success with helpful feedback and lots of encouragement. Boards and wetsuits were all in good condition. All my kids are keen to go back tomorrow - which says it all. They loved it! Cath

Sorry I'm not sure if that's the right name Jade..? I learned from him and I really recommend it. This was my first time surfing and I was worried because I can't swim but I didn't have to worry at all. It was so much fun that 2 hours felt like 40 minutes!

We booked the session for our daughters (one celebrating a birthday). Aside from being a little hot in the sun, the girls had a great time together and really enjoyed their time in the water and managed to ride a few waves. Booking was simple and directions easy to follow. The instructors were very professional , friendly and lots of fun.
NB: We also did parasailing & jet ski (with other companies) the same day and our girls had trouble picking their favourite activity.
We highly recommend Go Ride a wave. Thanks!

Absolutely phenomenal experience! My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our surfing lesson. Remarkably, she was able to stand up on the board not once, but twice! Damien, our instructor, was not only affable but also impressively well-versed in the art of surfing. He provided clear and precise instructions that made the entire process feel intuitive. To top it all off, the weather was absolutely perfect! Enhancing our time on the waves. Highly recommended!

Any children who are 8 years old and above are fine to join any of our surf lessons without an adult. It is only for children under 8 years old that we ask a parent to assist. Regards Peter

We have two grandsons they are 15 years of age why can't they come by themselves? I do not want to learn to surf at my age. We are coming from NZ and the boys are very keen to learn.
