About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Kamal M0 contributionsTrip to Milford SoundAmazing trip to Milford Sound. Everything was tied up and perfect to the last detail. Our tour guide was exceptional. Thank youWritten 7 February 2025
- T6517NCjenniferr0 contributionsA Highlight! This day was one of the highlights of my trip to New Zealand. Jeff was a friendly and informative guide who went out of his way to make sure everyone was comfortable and happy. We lucked out with a sunny day on the sound and the boat trip was lovely! Highly recommend taking the optional flight back--one of the coolest things I've ever done and so worth the extra expense, plus it saves you a long bus ride back so you get to enjoy your evening in Queenstown.Written 7 February 2025
- tomo9560 contributionsMilford and moreOnce again Cheeky Kiwi have proven themselves as the best around. From Queenstown to Milford Sound we didn’t miss a thing with multiple stops for photos and food/drink breaks. Martin provided outstanding commentary and even better driving on the tricky roads. I can see why Van Gisbergen is so good :-) Our 2 hour cruise felt so real, surrounded by breathtaking mountains, waterfalls and some wildlife. Thanks for such a well organised day and the perfect weather just made it so special for both of us.Written 6 February 2025
- Robert L0 contributionsWow, Wow, WowWhat an experience, the weather was not in our favour in the morning, but the team kept saying let’s be optimistic! Glad we didn’t cancel one of the best things we have ever done! The hiking team were brilliant!!!Written 6 February 2025
- 928Wendy020 contributionsFive star tour of Milford SoundsThe whole tour of Milford Sounds was simply amazing from start to finish. Mari drove our minibus, whilst giving us the tour information. She was so bubbly & knowledgeable and organised us all really well, so that we got to do everything in good time without feeling rushed. The cruise was stunning with plenty of room on board to be able to move around. The Icing on the cake was the flight back at the end. We had Jim flying us & he was funny as well as being knowledge & an excellent pilot. The weather was good, so we got to fly over Milford Sounds, the ice fields & Queenstown. We felt that we were floating on cloud 9. We couldn’t recommend the tour enough & Cheeky Kiwi as a company.Written 5 February 2025
- margaretpF9068LC0 contributionsHighly recommend this trip! The tour was fabulous, the scenery spectacular. I booked late and found the entire booking, bus, boat, and flight experience ran really smoothly. Staff were very friendly. I took the small bus from my hotel in Queenstown to Milford Sound and took the Glenorchy Air plane back to Queenstown after the boat trip. The plane trip afforded stunning views, and cut a few hours off the return journey at the end of a long day.Written 5 February 2025
- Sakiko W0 contributionsOutstanding! Our guide/driver was friendly and considerate. We stopped at various locations and had enough time to see the gorgeous views and take photos. We were not rushed at all. Milford Sound was simply breathtaking. We saw some seals. The flight back to Queenstown was exceptional.Written 5 February 2025
- Trip483552575850 contributionsAmazing experience until Franz JosephIt was a Wonderful time in exploring New Zealand from Queenstown to Franz Joseph glaciar view. Amazing lakes, amazing sightseeing’s, deep Information supplied for one well experienced and very competent guide Ana. She is actually very well skilled and knows the area keeping attention in the best spots for the climate and diversified top to see. I really advise to book this tour with Cheeky Kiwi because they only operate small groups and they use safe and good cars. The driving was careful and very well done with safety and efficiency. Congratulations to Ana and the company where she is doing so well. All the best.Written 5 February 2025
- robertmC7877VE0 contributionsBest of Queenstown! This was my favorite experience in Queenstown. Go with Chris, tour guide, if you can. He was funny, had great music, and taught us so much along the way about NZ and Maori history. The jet ride back was 100% worth it too. 10 out of 10 all around.Written 4 February 2025

- F2944JAjoek0 contributionsEnjoyable experienceThe trip over is a distance but Cheeky Kiwi definitely broke up the 4 hour trip with multiple stops for food and the bathroom. In addition Kris stopped at different lookouts for pictures. It was a long day but We'll Worth It! The cruise is amazing going through Milford fiord!Written 3 February 2025
- nrefff0 contributionsWell worth the drive: Milford Sound is stunningMy wife and I had a wonderful trip to Milford Sound with Cheeky Kiwi. Our guide and van operator, Kristina, was a delight and made the time fly by in the van. 4-5 hours each way seemed a little daunting but with all the stops and commentary it flew by. Kristina was an excellent driver, not easy to say on the windy roads through Fiordland National Park, and she had great music playing in the van. Milford Sound felt like another world and the boat ride around it allowed us to appreciate even more how stunning it is. I would say this is a must for anyone visiting Queenstown and Cheeky Kiwi put together an awesome trip for us.Written 3 February 2025
- Drose760 contributionsA great day in the south! The whole day was spectacular. Cheeky (Dayton was our driver) took care of our arrangements and showed personality and hospitality and professionalism with just the right amount of each.Written 1 February 2025
- USAAworldtraveler0 contributionsThe only way to do Milford.Do not under any circumstances take a multi-hour car tour, spend 2 hours on the Sound, and then spend hours going back by car on the same road. Fly back. It’s 30 minutes and you get a whole different viewpoint (in some ways more interesting than the Sound sailing). Doing both ways by car for a 2 hour sailing would be exhausting. The Cheeky guide was fun and well organized. Your experience of the Sound will be weather dependent. No clouds on our entire trip. My general experience with Cheeky has been great.Written 1 February 2025

Last time I visited New Zealand I attempted a few times to see Mt Cook when it wasn't covered in cloud. This time I booked a small bus tour with Cheeky Kiwi from Queenstown and the weather turned out to be amazing. Our bus driver Reece and Pete mentioned that this was going to be the best day and it was. Along the journey Reece asked us to introduce ourselves, gave us useful information to add to our interests and stopped to allow us to take photos at set stopped. The scenery was beautiful along the way but as we approached Mt Cook without a cloud in the sky and the beautiful azure lake the view was 'jaw dropping'. With 4 hours to explore Mt Cook, I chose to walk the Hoover Valley walk and visit the Mt Cook village. Reece and Pete went out of their way to provide everyone the experience they wished. Thanks to Cheeky Kiwi it was the best day, made even better with our gudes Reece & Pete.

Shane was very informative and friendly! We went on the Mt. Cook tour, but we couldn’t see the mountain or hike because of the rain. However, Shane was quick to think of alternatives places we could go and re-routed us. He was very accommodating and stayed positive despite the bad weather. Thank you shane!
Comments to the tour company: I would recommend that you offer free cancellation/full refund to those who booked walking-centered tours when there is bad weather. They sent the email about the rain after the 24-hour cancellation window had passed.

Had such a lovely time on board our trip to Mt Cook. The tour included appropriate stops and great activities. But what made the tour so enjoyable was our guide, Jeff, who did a fantastic job of showing us all the beautiful stops and giving adequate time for photos at all the scenic spots. He is quite knowledgeable of the local history too and was able to give us little tips.
We would highly recommend this tour for all families and couples.

We had an absolutely brilliant, once in a lifetime experience on our Mt Cook tour from Queenstown thanks to Cheeky Kiwi and our guide Sinchan. Sinchan was very attentive and took care of our every need throughout the day, while keeping us entertained with his informative and witty commentary. We chose to add on the Heli Grand Circle Scenic Flight and words can’t describe just how magnificent the flight was. Just Magical! We highly recommend this tour as a must do on your itinerary when staying in Queenstown. We must give a big thank you to Sinchan for delivering such an amazing and unforgettable day. Andrew & Joey.

An early morning start from Queenstown led to a lovely day at Mount Cook NP with the charming Rhys. This tour has a lot of driving, hence the early start to cover distance, but Rhys was a friendly and informative guide. A few photos stops before arriving at Mount Cook where we had just over 2.5 hours to explore. We were given several options for walks and Rhys tried to get those who wanted it onto scenic flights and helicopter rides. It was a hot day, and the main walk is incredibly exposed with very little shade. There is actually very little shade anywhere. Sun hats, sunscreen, appropriate clothing and ample water are absolutely necessary. The actual track isn’t that challenging but there are a fair few steps in parts
and suspension bridges and travellers should take that into consideration before booking this tour. It is an absolutely beautiful setting, with Mount Cook and the lake providing picture postcard vistas, but it is a national park with limited amenities. As always in NZ the people who are the guides are what makes a tour something special and Rhys was no exception - a lovely and professional guide.

Sinchan and Becky were fun and Sinchan was full of interesting information and history Despite the wind and rain they both gave us a good time and were very professional and great drivers, especially Sinchan as the wind and rain was very strong. They stopped to help a family in a rolled RV and were very professional about it. Highly recommend this tour even in bad weather as there were pockets of photo opportunities.

Colin was one of the best tour guides we have had over many trips to New Zealand. He was deeply knowledgable about the geography and history of the areas he took us through, with a pleasant and interesting delivery. He also drove well, communicated with all of the people on the tour and was very flexible with routes when plans changed.

Fantastic day from start to finish! Long day travelling but broken up with frequent stops. Our driver/guide Sarah was extremely personable and informative. Would 100% recommend this day trip for anyone wanting to go to Mount Cook village/Hooker Valley trail without the driving!

I booked a last minute trip to Queenstown and was keen to do some day trips to see the surrounding areas.
I hadn’t heard of Cheeky Kiwi tours before but I’m glad I booked with them for the Mt Cook Small Group Tour from Queenstown on 15 Oct 2022.
Our guide Sinchan had wealth of knowledge about the areas we visited. His humorous commentary & the fact that the group was encouraged to get involved plus the spectacular sights of Aoraki Mount Cook and Lake Pukaki made for a great day all round.

Will an elderly person with a sedentary lifestyle be able to manage some of the walks in this tour? What’s the difficulty level?
“Moderate walking involved” - Does this mean nonstop, some stops, for 30mins, an hour?

Is there a trip that goes from Mt Cook to Queenstown?
Written 16 July 2019
There should be but you need to check this out thru some local tour operators on all there available tour packages and select which one fits your iterenary. Some also offer customized tours but it will be quiet expensive.
Written 18 July 2019
Hello, if we are staying in Tekapo, could we be picked up and dropped off there? Looking forward to hearing back.
Written 6 July 2019
I wasn't able to do that. I think you need to ask some local tour companies there and I think it will be very expensive.
